Embrassment at STX this weekend

So this weekend in SOWELA SCCA, had a good line up. But here are the four cars I will discuss:

Stock FRS
My rx8 (I/E cobb stage 1 wheels bbs mr evo ix 17x8.5 with 245 rs3's) Series 1
Ohter rx8 (I/E (both of us had AEM CAI and he had RB I had Corksport) Series 2
245 dulop star spec
Modified FRS
17x9 rotas (ce28 knock offs) 245 dulops star spec (with coilovers)

Now I have a check engine like for my o2 sensor other than that im running fine
Best time for the cars:
Stock FRS: 79
Me: 74
S2 RX8: 68.3
FRS modified: 68.0

While im happy to show those FRS/BRZ over lovers that the rx8 is just as good if not better, mind you it had coilovers and hte s2 was stock suspension. Sports model (NO R3) I can't figure out why the S2 beat me SOooo bad. ( to me 6 sec is pretty bad)

We both are the base, sport models. No leather or such. Both had strut bars, both had oem suspension, he ran the oem rim/dunlop tire, and i the MR BBS rim/rs3 tire, and similar motor mods.....

What makes the s2 soo much better? Is it really just the rear suspension set up? Can I compete with a "true" setup car, ie suspension/coilovers/strut bars/sway bars etc. or would I be better off upgrading to a series 2? Also, Why is it I keep hearing the R3 weights more than the base sport rx8? When in the magazines it supposedly weights 60 pounds lighter???

What mods should I do to keep up with the stock s2 rx8?

thanks.

The driver mod.

his driver mod is better than yours.

Though, they fixed the floaty boat suspension a bit on the S2's. Thats not to account for the 6 seconds though. According to teamrx8, the S2's are not all that much better than S1's, if not worse when it comes to autox. Most of it is just hype.

best way to beat other cars is to keep practicing. Stop modding your car, the more you do to it, the harder it will be to learn what it is doing. practice a lot where it is right now. Then once you get a feeling for it, do 1 upgrade at a time and spend a lot of time practicing. then rinse and repeat, you will eventually get a feeling for what does what and how certain parts interact with each other, which will let you be able to fine tune and dial in specific settings later on.

was thinking between steering wheel and seat too. Don't feel too bad about it... I'm sure my driver mod would put me some where in 90-100 range lol

TopGear8 08-13-2012 12:08 PM

Looks like you need some seat time...

I can relate to the driver mod. I made too many changes and am heading back to zero to figure out what is happening. Where I am right now, all the performance is concentrated in the left rear tail light. At times, it gets tired of pushing the car and wins. Also, the car is faster with 200 lb instructor saying nothing than it is with just me in it.

Unless something is horribly wrong with the car, you might want to see if that track has an HPDE where you can get an instructor to ride along.

tighten up the loose nut behind the steering wheel ... :cwm27:

Cobb Stage 1 is not good, you should let me tune that for you

a lot of lower cost coilovers are meh too, you didn't state what's on there

good tire choice though, nothing wrong there

ooobigfire 08-13-2012 02:54 PM

Practice practice practice

Glad you got the car running right again man.

Thanks man, well guys reason I say embarrassment is memr and him have similar years under our belts and I notice someone asked bout suspension and we are both stock. I was actually bout to upgrade to next level cause so far this year I've won every AutoX event in my region.... So guess I need to go back to drawing board. Maybe I've become complacent lol. Now competition is more than mustangs and genesis.

Ya, I just loaded it cause i'd figured it was better than nothing. I watched my AFR and its lowest mark is 11.7

I was thinking of just having steve Kan tune it since dallas is only 3.8 hrs away.

olddragger 08-13-2012 03:53 PM

gearing helps a little....

TeamRX8 08-13-2012 03:58 PM

apparently the nut is about to fall off, lol

I suppose so... lol (crys inside)

TeamRX8 08-14-2012 08:55 PM

It is worse than nothing, all anyone can do is try .... but go ahead and pay someone who isn't really all that RX8 fluent

All_Day_Dre 08-15-2012 03:08 PM

was the S2 white? Ive raced against him, hes a good driver but ive been able to beat him on 2 occasions, now he beats me by massive time, the change? those star specs, if you notice the other FRS had star specs to and posted similiar times, they are great tires. ive driven shotgun in the S2 and whenever i feel like the car should start to break loose it doesnt, those tires grip and grip and grip!

MikeTyson8MyKids 08-16-2012 06:30 AM

OP was running RS3's, so tires should be just about equal to Star Specs, if not a bit better really.
