New to this forum and not sure where to post this. Here we go.
What is the Rx-8 like compared to first gen DSM's 90-94 Eclipse/talon/laser if anyone would know I would appreciate the info.

if it doesnt have turbos then the RX-8 will be faster

TheBuddy Feb 18, 2004 09:05 PM

no no no.. I mean handling acceleration ect. all I really know are DSM's in the way of what it feels to drive.... sorry I didn't specify. not trying to really compare as in 1/4 or anything not really fair, since its a 10+ year difference.

AWD or FWD, I owned a 90 Talon TSI and have test driven the RX-8 twice so I could give a decent comparison of the RX-8 compared to the AWD version.

TSI, GS-T FWD only, since RX-8 isn't awd

The TSI is AWD only. Plus, everyone knows the only worthwhile DSM is an AWD DSM :p If we're talking FWD, the RX-8 will run circles around the DSM on a track be similar in acceleration after the torque steer subsides on the DSM (mall edge to the RX-8 though) Tuning potential of the RX-8 will probably never come close to a DSM, but few cars ever will.

There is a TSI, and TSI AWD... im just wondering since DSMs are all I really know much about... also looking into an 89' 300zxT

F**KING THING CUT ME OFF  ... I was saying I was looking into buying an 89' 300zxT, RX-8, or maybe a mazda6... but I want enough room... and the 300 back seats are well.. yea.. lol I do agrere with the tuning though, but theres many problems with them.. I wanted one since i was 16 and got one when I turned 20... boy was I dissappointed, not with the performance per say but all the 'little things' that tend to go wrong with them... there are dsms running invredible times but at what cost :-\ 27 psi and a blown engine ? every time I think about it I think about what a friend told me a while back... Mitsubishi's are like the KIA's of Japan... I am thinking thats true more and more.

My first Gen. ended up getting totaled when someone ran a redlight. It was modded and the only thing I ever had to do to it was get recalls and regular maintenance taken care off for save for a clutch at 105k miles. The amazing thing is I launched this car regularly and drove the snot out of it, including dozens of runs down a drag strip and several track days.

Come to think of it I did go through brakes like mad, but that is really my only complaint. I know other people have problems but overall I had no problems. Really it was the second gens that had the most problems because Mitusbishi started using substandard cranks in 95. Overall that engine is very solid, and you can't really expect reliability from an engine when you start modding it.

I guess you're right about the TSI coming in FWD, but the first 2 MYs I believe the TSI was only AWD so I got a bit confused.

God I wish I still had that car as a project car :(
