Driving position with stock R3 seats
So I've never done a track day with my own car, and one of my missions this year is to change that. The main obstacle is that I feel like I can't get a decent driving position with a helmet on.
I'm 6' 2", and my normal driving position gives me a good reach on the controls but not enough headroom to accommodate a helmet. If I recline far enough to get a helmet on, it feels like my arms are too far from the steering wheel. Short of installing a legit racing seat, is there anything I can do? Any tall folks with R3 seats care to weigh in? |
I'm 6'3", long of torso, and bought the R3 knowing that headroom would be an issue...
I've not looked into it, but it *may* be possible to temporarily remove the R3 seat bottom cushion. I did this with Corbeau A4 seat in a previous car. Remove the seat cushion and sit on the springs for track days :) |
I click the seat forward one notch to account for the bit of extra recline I need for helmet clearance with mine. 6' 0" though...
I don't feel like it affects the footwork too much since you're using "more of the pedals" on track. YMMV |
I'm already about as far forward as my knees will allow. :/
|
If converting to a full on track car then yank the stock wheel and put on something with more of a dish / offset to it would probably be next step then.
|
I wish I could convert it. This is my DD and will be for the foreseeable future.
|
6'-3" here and I have to recline and have the seat further forward than normal to fit with a helmet. It's not ideal, but perfectly workable. Certainly better than my old sunroof equipped FC.
