did rev it up last sat.

And I was a little over two seconds behind the pro driver.:( I thought I threw a pretty good lap up there untill I compared it to what jason hart (the pro) ran. Eventhough it was only my second autox, I still expected to do better than that. Oh well, I guess that is why they are called pros.
It was fun though, and after driving the karts they had there, I am getting one no matter what. Those things make the 3's we were driving feel sloppy.
But back to my question, anyone else do the houston event? How did ya do? What did you think of it all?

Your first Auto X is a very humbling experience...

some people get hooked on improving their driving and some think they are still the traffic kings and that their time is better spent then on "cones"

I'm still chasing the National level guys ;)

yeah, it was a little humbling, but not that bad. I mean I still ran times up there with some of the experienced club and "pro" drivers (not THE pros) so with that I am happy. But I still wanted to do better. The thing I noticed about the real pro drivers is that when they got on the brakes, it was DEEP, you could only see the brake lights for just a second. Also, the lines they took were very wide compared to the rest of the field. I asked one of the pro drivers about that and he said to basically take the widest line possible around the cones so you can carry more speed onto the straights. It was too late for me to try that on my timed runs, but i was able to knock a half second off one of my skill runs just by taking a little wider arc when entering a turn. I didnt have to breathe(sp) the gas as much, and was able to carry better speed like he said.
And on another note, if some of you guys are looking for a good autox tire, I recomend the azenis:eek:

Yes it is. I did my first autox this past Sunday. Three runs-three DNFs. The car was great, the driver sucked. My first run, I totally went off course early, the last two runs I was OK until a 6 or 7 cone slalom near the end (keeping it floored here was not the right thing to do at my skill level). I learned a lot including how much I need to learn.

Billdo, it sounds like the training helps. I hope to learn a lot my local rev it up.

red rx8 red int,
You will learn tons when you go. The only problem is that its almost too much. There is so much to learn and do, its almost impossible for someone of our experience to grasp it all for one run. Things happen so quick that it's hard to remember to use all that they have taught you. But with more seat time, it will all start to sink in and become second nature. You will be a better driver than when you first showed up though, and it is alot of fun.
