Anyone AutoXing with Kuhmo V700 in RX8. Need your expertise
 

If you have been Autoxing with Kuhmos Ecstas V700, What tire pressures (Frt/RR) have you had the best result in your RX8?

Also, what were your alighnment numbers if you had an allignment? Camber, Caster and Toe. as applicable for Frt and Rear.

Have you mounted and driven to track, if so distance?

Did you do anything special related to heat cycling?

I wouldn't say that I have expertise, but I'll throw my two cents in. I bought mine shaved and heat cycled them myself. To heat Cycle them I just drove on the freeway very nicely for about 40 minutes, came home and took them off. You're evidently supposed to let them sit for 48 hours before you run them.

Alignment: -1.5 Camber Front, -1.0 Camber Rear
Toed out between 1/16 and 1/8 in the front
0 Toe on the rear
Didn't worry about Caster
For me it was best to stay on the stock front sway bar, mostly because of my bad habit of overcooking corner entries. I'm on stock shocks as well.

Pressures: I'm at 45 all the way around. This seems high to me, so my car is going back for another alignment to confirm my numbers and try for more camber all the way around. Took it to a shop that used to be very good down here, but it's under new management and I was not impressed with their work, so I'm not sure how much I can trust their numbers. If nothing else, just chalk the sidewalls, it will let you know real quick what to do.

Chops thanks for the input. 45 seems high based on what I have been reading from Kuhmo, but no replacement for experience. Since you are in Yuma, you have been driving in very hot weather as we have here. Is that air pressure of 45 cold or hot?? for both the front and rear


As you are running, I have the stock GT suspension as well

I've only run them in san diego, so I can't speak for hot weather yet. I run in Phoenix this weekend, I'll let you know how they are in hotter conditions as soon as I find out! I start at around 43 cold, pressures are usually above 45 at the conclusion of the run, then I'll bleed them down to 45 and keep them there.

I ran those tires in '04. Pressures were at 40f/35r. Alignment was max camber/caster in front: 1.3 deg in the rear, zero toe. This was with the RB bar.

Just spent a day on the 265-35-18 Ecsta V700, did a ride and drive for Kumho dealers, did about 50 runs on them. 45psi all around worked well. I always hated the Ecsta V700 on my vette but they worked very well on the RX8. Still no match for the KUMHO V710. :ylsuper:

ULLLOSE, I have the opportunity to get some 265-35-18 V700's for free.(they have about 3-4 events left on them) On a stock suspension and rim, are there any rubbing issues?

No they fit great.

I've been running V700s for the year. I also use 45psi all around and they work well, but I have a problem with the outside shoulder on the fronts wearing down to nothing after about 30 runs. The tread still looks good on top. I think it might be due to the 265 being a bit wide for the rim, which causes the shoulder to stick out a bit too much... either that or I'm doing something wrong behind the wheel. :confused: I'll try to get a pic of one of my tires tonight.

That is normal... Lack of -camber, the RX8 does not get enough to wear the tire even. I flip the tires when I get to the wear bars, then you get max runs out of them.
In your case if you were to take that Winnebago swaybar off and you got your car to rotate your front tires won't take such a beating. :yelrotflm

Haha. I might try going back to the stock bar, but I kinda like having an excuse for being slow. :wallbash:
