Any tips for how to launch?
I just took my car to Raceway Park New Jersey and ran a terrible time due to massive wheel spin. What RPM should you launch at? I was Launching at about 4 grand to avoid bogging but ended up with way too much wheel spin. Is there a happy medium? Any techniques? I also turned the traction control off for one run due to the loss of power the first run if that helps... i dunno

Well for one if you turn off traction control you will definitely get more wheel spin. It's a trade off. Where you should launch depends on your mods and your tires... play with it with and without traction control and see what works for you.

lower the air pressure to ~ 24 psi in the rear..
feather the clutch at ~ 4.5k rpm.. if you dont know what feather means.. search feather and motocross.. it does abuse the clutch, but is effective.. or the other option if you are really really serious. drop the clutch at ~ 7 k rpm. it is faster, but a lot more money.. clutch will be ok, but is sucks to be the transmission. life is a risk. btw, hold the tc / dsc button down for 7 secs. beers  |
I just step on the gas. Oh snap I have an AT.
Never mind. |
^Haha that made me laugh :)

depends on the track prep as well....try doing a nice burnout b4 you line up....it should make the tires stick alot better.....when i go to the 1/8th mile i launch at 6-7k rpms and get 2.0-2.1 60's.....

swoope-just how much differance would letting the air from 28 to 24 make? the road coming into the drag is beyond freaking horrible. |
For drag racing I have a problem with either spinning too much or getting massive wheel hop or both where it goes from spinning to wheel hop....
I also agree that burning out with a street radial tire is a waste of time. In fact I feel that building up heat in a street tire turns it greasy not sticky.... |
What will happen if i hold the t/c button down for 7 seconds?

If you just hit the trac button all it does is turn off the dsc which will do nothing for you in a straight line, but if you hold it down till you see the light with the car and little squiggly lines then you have turned off the actual traction control. unfortunally you can not turn it back on till you kill the car.

I am under the impression that unless you are running some sort of sticky tire that a burn out is a waist of time?? with no burn out very little wheel spin and a 6k quick slip we are getting 2.3??'s

how did you get massive wheel spin if you didn't know you had to hold down the trac button?:squint:
