YeeeHaaaaa!

It was not easy to accomplish as John Williams in another RX-8 was so close that he always kept me on my toes. He took 3rd only because the guy ahead of him (Honda S2K) was moved up to TTC two events before the end of the season. That left the door open for me to gain enough points to take the title moving the Honda to #2 and that cemented it in for John with no one else close enough to compete. It was a great year and one I will always be proud of for both John and I.

It's been a lot of fun over the past 5 years with my RX-8. I joined this club because I KO'd my first one and wanted to come on here and cry on you guys shoulder. So many of you were supportive of me when i was clueless about this car and driving a sports car in general. I started tracking just to learn how to drive. So many of you were inspirational and I thank all of you.

Congrats! Nasa SoCal TTD was won by an RX-8 as well and an RX-8 took 2nd in TTD at nationals. Seems to be a car well suited to the class!

Glad you're enjoying it. Will you be going to nationals next year at Mid Ohio?

Hope to see you guys @ Nationals! Saw you at Road Atlanta this past weekend, great job by all.

A Honda S2000 was the leader going into the last two events, however, he was moved to TTC. I don't know the whole story but he was untouchable. He may have had more than 19 points which would explain it. I had to make up about 315 points in the last two events to pass him, 310 to tie. He retained his points in TTD and wound up taking 2nd place with John Williams (RX-8) sewing up 3rd.

Now, enter the Dodge Neon... Holy smokes. He was a great driver and that car would walk off and leave me out of turn 7 at Road Atlanta. I think this was the only time I had to compete with him but that freaking turbo was just too much for me to handle in the straight. He took the weekend battle but I won the war. I gotta look more into that car and see what it's all about.

I did manage to turn my PBT of 1:44.17. I don't think that's too bad for a daily driver that you listen to the radio in on the way home from the track. :)

Don't expect to see me at the Nationals. As much as I would love to participate, I just don't have the cash or time from work to justify it. But I will be rooting my RX-8 brethren on. How many RX-8s participated in TTD in 2010?

EDIT:
msumlin, did I meet you at RA? I don't recognize your user name.

I did not meet you guys, but my wife and I were helping Eric Meyer out that weekend. He and Jay Andrews are good friends. A friend of ours will be running a RX-8 in TTD @ Nationals. The Black SRT-4 did look awful fast, especially on Sunday.

I don't have all the time sheets but the one that was fastest for me, the Neon (Clayton Abercrombie) beat me by about 1.4 sec.

You sure have come a long way from the incident with the power box! Remember this from 2004?

Thanks, I will try to find somewhere to do this without having to worry about other cars, people or inanimate objects. I live 15 miles from Road Atlanta so maybe they have a course that I can take to learn to drive my own car. I don't want to race, just want to know the limits of my car and how to handle it.

hahaha... 6 years ago and I was all emotional because I trashed my first RX-8. Man, you dug deep John. :)

Well... there was one RX-8 in TTD at nationals this year. But other than that I have no idea... I know my RX-8 was the only one in TT is Socal Region this year.

This was all DRIVERS. The cars were consistant DD's with no roll bars etc. They were not seriously track prepped cars.
Both chassis's have over 100K on them and oridginal wheel bearing etc and from trans back I think oridinal drive trains. Off the shelf coil overs (Teins flex--I think), stock plugs and coils.
Only one of them has an upgraded radiator. No special tuning etc. Don's dyno'ed at around 189rwhp. And with that little power he did a 1:44 at road atlanta. That is fast guys.
They haul everything for the track in their cars.
You know I dont see any other car at track events that can win their class like this, haul everything they need, serve as a hotel bed, track, then pack up and take you to work the next day. Lot of others do haul there on stuff but they DONT win their class.
Congrats boys.
OD

Congratulations!!!

I'm currently baby stepping my way to the TT class at NASA Florida.

Heading to Homestead this weekend for my first HPDE2 race and hope to be at HPDE4 by the end of the year. :eyetwitch

Congrats Don - NASA-SE has a stout TT program stacked with good drivers. That's no small feat :)

SilverEIGHT 07-15-2011 06:28 PM

Ken, I did not realize you were sporting an RX8 now!

kbrewmr2 07-18-2011 08:58 AM

Yep - the girlfriend is daily driving it but I autocross it every now and then and have had it on track. Not the primary track/race car yet, but it's there :)
