2006 US F1 Grand Prix Coverage (Lack of)
The race is not picked up by any major networks, so unless you have Speed channel, you are out of luck. One alternative is to listen to radiocast via 1030 WIBC, the local radio station. Visit http://www.wibc.com/indy500/broadcastschedule_usgp.aspx and click on "On Air" link in the upper right hand corner to follow the race the good old fashioned way.

I was really hoping to get to watch the race in HD, guess that won't happen this year. Tivo's set to record speed incase I'm out in the garage.

It is no surprise, after the huge embarrassment the race was last year. I have it recorded, so right now I don't know who won, but I hope it turns out better than last years pseudo race.

funny you bring this up... my dvr dumped at lap 45. guess it is the replay for me....
beers  |
who the hell wants to see CBS cover F1?
the speed coverage all weekend was awesome. get a dish if your stupid cable provider doesn't have speed. CBS sucks. |

I had been downloading the british coverage of the past races and they have all been excellent.

While this might sound sacrilegious but forget HD if it means I have to watch the race on CBS. There is NO comparison to Speed's coverage.
On CBS you don't get: 1. 30 minutes of pre-race coverage 2. Knowledgeable play-by-play by those who actually know something about F1 3. Knowledgeable commentary by those who actually raced/participated in F1 4. Knowledgeable discussion by those who actually follow the series and don't "pop-in" for one race 5. Knowledgeable discussion during the race about what is actually going on with the team's race strategy 6. Unbridled access to racers and team mangers in the pits, etc. 7. Complete Post-race podium and celebration 8. Complete Post-race interview session 9. Final standings with regards to driver's championship points and manufacture's point. 10. Don't forget about Friday and Saturday practice/qualifing coverage With all of that on Speed, who needs HD?!?! Speed offered 10+ hours of US Grand Prix coverage and I loved every second of it. That's almost NASCAR Daytona coverage! :Freak_ani If that's not good enough for you I don't know what is. If you don't have Speed and care about F1, step up! |
Speed Channel is the only way to go.
Watched the race that night. Great coverage as always. |
I enjoy Speed Channel like everybody else, but I think they go a little overboard with their NASCAR coverage. I mean, have they ever heard of the saying, " you can get TOO much of a good thing."
I also enjoy their Moto GP and Champ Car coverage. |
wow, thats awful for you guys :(
I guess thats why Bernie has been saying the race is expendable :( |

I guess thats why Bernie has been saying the race is expendable :( For the US GP, we saw Friday Practice 1&2, Saturday Practice & Qualifying and the Sunday Race. Friday Practice 1 and Saturday Practice were not too interesting. With NASCAR, it seems like it is all NASCAR all the time. Because the Fox Network has broadcast rights for half the NASCAR season and Fox owns the Speed TV network, we have 2 or more NASCAR related programs a day during primetime television. Before Fox bought the network, we used to see powerboat racing, airplane racing, British and German touring cars, European Lemans series and more. What coverage do you get in the U.K.? |
Speed used to do a much better job of replaying the F1 and/or Champ Car races on Sunday Night so those of us who participate can also watch. I guess they figure you have Tivo now.
Also I think the CBS coverage of open-wheel racing is just outsourced from SpeedTV. They just use the dumbed-down announcers instead of the regular crew. |

Oh, and we used to get WRC. But no more.
