1/8 Mile Strip Thread

2 Attachment(s)
Just thought that I would start a thread for those of us that don't have a 1/4 mile strip close. I have a 1/8 mile strip here in my town so.....

i went last night for the first time ever. Didn't do too bad. the temp was probably mid to high 80's, but the track was SUPER STICKY. very nice... very little wheel spin at launch, while launching at 7-8K.

my best time of the night was a 9.71... unfortunatly they ran out of slips.... oh well.... these are in order of best to worst...

9.873 @71.65
9.964 @ 71.33
10.000 @ 71.54
10.050 @ 71.07
10.100 @ 69. 84 (missed 2nd)
10.206 @70.96
10.369 @ 69.00 (missed 2nd)
10.418 @ 57.32 (missed 3rd at the line and just coasted)

Man I wish more people would post their 1/8th mile times, lol. I race at irwindale a lot, well with my 66 stang before I lost the motor (looks like oil pressure). Hopefully I can get an RX8 soon and do a little racing there again, till the 66 is running again at least, this time with 550-600hp :)

For the 1/4 mile guys, the 1/8th mile time should be posted on your time slip as the 660ft time

Later

Why are the RX8's trapping so low? I ran 9.0 @ 73 mph in my 1992 Sentra SE-R with nothing but intake/header/advanced timing and the car probably made 130 whp @ 2400 pounds. My 176 whp 173 WTQ 2000 single cam turbo civic EX ran 8.52 @ 84 mph.

i dont know? my friends EVO, which i lost to many times that night... ran a best of 9.03 @ 78 i believe?

You cant compare apples with oranges. Both cars weigh a lot less than the rx8. not to mention a turbo car has a better flatter power band which will have a big positive effect.

A lot has to do with the driver too though, a lot of people can drive well but few can master a cars performance. And it usually takes a good amount of racing to get it right.

There is only so much you can do with a stock car, NOT to mention independent rear suspension is TERRIBLE for drag racing. Wheel hop becomes a problem when launching. Thats why the new shelby mustang went with a solid rear axle instead of the IRS like b4.

A solid rear axle... heh... 1,000 years of ox carts can't be wrong. :D:

Trap speed isn't very driver dependant.

CosmosMpower 07-09-2006 04:09 PM

Yeah those cars weigh a lot less but the Sentra made a LOT less power and the Civic made a lot more torque but trapped nearly 10 mph higher than the average RX8 which is ridiculous.

Power to weight by my calculations for the SE-R @ 2450lbs with 130 whp is 18.8 pounds/hp and for a stock RX8 @ roughly 2750 lbs with 170 rwhp is 16.1 pounds per hp. Even with wheel hop and a bad driver the RX8 still should trap higher than the 72-73 mph i was able to run in the sentra.

Also, even with wheel hop and IRS etc a RWD car with a LSD diff should still be able to beat a FWD car with an open diff. I will confess both the turbo civic and SE-R were on DOT slicks but that still doesn't explain the discrepency in trap speeds.

stock rx8 is closer to 3000 ibs......

66Racer 07-13-2006 01:12 AM

hp + tire spin = higher mph
hp + grip = lower mph

There are numerious variations to this, but you can have 2 cars run the same et and one may have spun more and achieved a higher mph. The most recent car shootout that I can remember is the Mercedes SL55 vs Mercedes SL65.

(same cars different engines, same model year too)
SL55 = v8 supercharged roughly 480hp
SL65 = v12 Biturbo roughly 617hp

both cars ran high 12's, about 12.7 or so, but the trap speeds had a HUGE differance, the 55 was around 112mph or so and the 65 was in the 120's which indicated a lot of tire spin and is capable of a faster et.

This may not answer the question being asked when applied to the rx8 but its a possibility, Havent drag raced an rx8 yet. Just my Mustang :) Even then mid 14's isnt very fast, i mainly race the 1/8 but I couldnt imagine trap speeds over 73mph. My mustang would run 8.6-8.8 (on a BUDGET 302 est 300-330hp, 3spd manual, stock 2.79:1 rear gears) on the 1/8th with trap speeds consistantly at 83-84mph

I have a 1/8 race track very near to where I live.............

Here is my 1/8 times 3 months ago
8.32 sec at 88 mphs with a lot of tire spinning.............
We maked a diferent set up to the car and yesterday
we whent to the same race track and the car was making
8.20 sec but at 100 mph with tire spining in all the gears, I was runing with as low as 15 psi of pressure on the tires,
once we resolve the problem of tire spinning we would have a
7 sec 1/8 mile car.

8.51 sec at 84mph
Back when the car had the greddy turbo/int x/ drag tires/other stuff...
