So my key got messed up so i've been using the valet key for a while.
Got my key fixed and i have no clue what happened to the plastic knob thing.
Not really sure what it's called but whatever i searched online i can't find one.

From www.onlinemazdaparts.com , I am 95% certain that this is the part you're looking for :

ELECTRICAL / IGNITION SYSTEM / IGNITION LOCK / IGNITION SWITCH
IGNITION SWITCH RX-8; Keyless Ignition Switch

Online price is $8.78

http://onlinemazdaparts.com/parts/20...ITION%20SWITCH

This is from the 2006 catalog (my car's year); not sure if the later years changed the design, but I don't think this is the case.

HELP!!!!!
I am very stressed out. I have researched and researched for my RX8 key knob...
I just spent $42.00 from Online Mazda Parts.com! And they send a piece of plastic that has no insides that falls on the floor because there is nothing for it to hold on to. And now they aren't helping me. I need to send it back and I am not getting any help!
SOMEONE REALLY NEEDS TO TELL ME WHAT PARTS THESE ARE! Here are the pictures.... One of the knob I just got with no insides... One of my old broken one.. then I realized it comes apart.. So ALL I NEEDED WAS THE PART THAT SNAPS IN.... But no one has any idea.

i think that might be it...if not i think i have another part number and it's like 20 something dollars. I'll let you guys know, thanks!

I did a test today, as long as I had the key card in the car, I could turn it on with pliers!
I am wondering if there is a random key out there that would work. Any ideas???

Time to resurrect an old thread!

I have this exact same issue on my 2006 Mazdaspeed 6. Did anyone find out if this part can be ordered? what the part number is?

My local Mazda dealer basically said I could order the entire ignition cylinder for like $400, or check junk yards.

Any help would be awesome,

-Fish

I ended up getting the part at the dealership. I had to point the exact part out to them as their diagrams make it easy to think it's the plastic knob cover instead. The part number for the RX-8 is D6Y1-76-142 ."BASE-KNOB"

EDIT: ASH8 has had this information out there : https://www.rx8club.com/tech-garage-...2/#post4273450

TSB applies to the 2006 MS6 : https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/...se-revised-pdf

I'd reference the TSB number 09-019/12 to them (last issued 05/09/2012). The part should be less than $10.

You are freakin awesome! Stopped by my local Mazda dealership on the way home. Part ordered. $6.50 or something like that.

Have you found one yet?
I have been looking but not too active, since 07 when I bought my 8

I did I just bought one from Online Mazda Parts

the part number is: D6Y176142

it was only $5 and I regrettably paid $8 s&h...

haven't received it yet, but its better than the $40+ the dealer wanted to charge me for the piece.
