hydro locked engine/ need new engine asap

as title states i am in need of a new engine/engine tranny.(2004) ps AEM CAI suck

RX8YA 05-06-2010 05:56 PM

^Its extremely hard to hydro lock our engines how did that happen?

MazdaManiac 05-06-2010 06:02 PM

It is not physically possible to damage a rotary motor by hydro-locking.
You can hydro-lock it, but it will just stop running and the liquid will run out the exhaust. eventually.

FoxRacer600RR 05-06-2010 07:20 PM

I was driving down a DRY road and next thing i know i run up on a deep ass body of water, i have ran threw plenty on big puddles but this one came up to my doors (a damn chevy cobalt made it threw) but my car just bogged and shut off, so i sat and thought about what to do........looked out the window and was scared to open the door because water was at the bottom of the door. i i didnt think the ater was up to the filter so i cranked and u could hear the starter engage but it just wouldn't turn over, finally after 15 mins of waiting it started to crank HARD like it had MAD compression and then it actually started to want to run ,but it was running reall ruff like only one cylinder was getting spark so i figured if i hold it at 2500 for a bit it would run the water ( if that is what it was ) out of it. but then it started to knock real bad and when i looked under the car oil was leaking out from somewhere......................hopefully il have the engine out tonight to see where it was coming from........sorry for spelling and punctuation i was in a hurry

take off the POS AEM intake. Install original and tow to the dealer... Or are you over the 8 year 100k?

Oh dry it out before you go! Every spec in the intake and engine should have no water :-D

FoxRacer600RR 05-06-2010 07:27 PM

04 with just under 100k, why what can the dealer do ? and i dont have the stock box anymore

FoxRacer600RR 05-06-2010 07:28 PM

or should i say what does under 100k mean im not under warranty anymore

Cf05 05-06-2010 07:29 PM

there is an 8 year 100k mile warranty for the rotary core if you lose compression they will give you a replacement granted you have the appropriate documentation

FoxRacer600RR 05-06-2010 07:37 PM

ha , news to me, im the second owner but i have all the docs from when i purchased it at 40,000, do u have to have stock exhaust and intake on ?

Cf05 05-06-2010 07:39 PM

Not usually, and if the dealer says you do take it somewhere else cuz theyll be a pita the whole process, where they get really really picky is with oil changes make sure you have your records!

FoxRacer600RR 05-06-2010 07:40 PM

well thats out the window, i do my oil changes every 1500 to 2000 miles but i do them on my own

RIWWP 05-06-2010 07:51 PM

Have you contacted your insurance company? Should be able to file a loss claim. Granted, your fault legally, but it should be covered as flood damage. Probably would total it though.

Dustinali 05-06-2010 07:52 PM

pmed

RotaryResurrection 05-07-2010 01:38 AM

Yeah, you hydrolocked it enough to crack one of the irons...one of the weak points of the renesis seems to be soft iron housings that crack fairly easily in a wreck, detonation event, or (in your case) hydrolock event.

It actually IS possible to hydrolock a rotary, although it is much harder to do than a piston engine.

I would like to get your old core block once you find a replacement, btw.

X Rx8 05-07-2010 01:47 AM

So you tried starting it while in the puddle?? You should have dried it all out then pull start it

qwester007 05-07-2010 10:25 AM

Engine Available-

Hello-

shadycrew31 05-07-2010 11:44 AM

If I were you I'd send my engine off to Rotary Resurrection and see what he can do with it.

But do it soon you don't want that water sitting in there forever. If you don't get the engine to him with in a week or so your fukced

I don't know what kind of budget your on but your core at this point is fubar most likely, so be prepared to spend some dollars.

I personally would love to see what it looks like.

FoxRacer600RR 05-07-2010 12:56 PM

ok, called my insurance co (usaa) and i have a guy coming out to look at it . and as soon as i get a estimate or a yes or no i will get in touch with a few ppl and see if the engines are still available ...or possibly a rebuild .......UPDATE* the car will start now but runs like poo. i woke up this morning and just wanted to see what it would do and it cranked and sure enough fired right up but ran really bad and wouldnt idle so after 15-20 sec i cut it off because i know it will do nothing but screw it up and found more oil on the floor coming from behind the a/c compressor on the engine housing

basically a cop was asking me to get it out of the road and i have a remote start on the car so i can crank the car with it in gear so thats what i did to get it out of the road,....im just guessing but since water doesn't compress im figuring it blew sum seals but im not an expert

imop45 05-07-2010 01:12 PM

well you learned ur lessen not to turn on cars in deep water ltm

:uhh:

Yea.............AEM and MS intake are the same thing practically and are basically the best intake you can get for the car outside of the stock one even if they only offer slight improvement. The problem wasn't the intake, it was you driving through a deep ass body of water which is not a "puddle". Key note; it came up to your door.

Yea...that's a lot bigger than a "puddle". If it was up that high sounds more like you drove through an area of the road that was flooded.

Good. USAA will take care of you. Good company to have. Mazda doesnt warranty their engines to run like that, not sure why people think the 100k warranty would cover it, and its flood famage under most policies.

FoxRacer600RR 05-07-2010 07:00 PM

Yes, usaa has been so good to me in the past i have actually wanted to write thank you letters lol
