Looks great. Can you blacken all three rear badges? If so, I'm definitely interested.

After removing and cleaning the emblems, use 1000+ grit sandpaper to scuff the chrome surface. From there, you can either apply several light coats of flat black (as these were done) or you can apply final light coats of gloss black or just glossy clear over the light coats of black primer. It's really up to you if you want a flat look or a glossy look. I think that the flat look appears more upscale, if that's the best word for it, but that's just my opinion. I had made these for a friend of mine who also asked me to smoke his taillights out, as he was going with a black theme, but his finances are tight at the moment and I had already started making these parts for him, so instead of letting them sit around, I decided to offer them to all of you here. On the subject of the taillights, one of them was smoked and the other wasn't as seen in other threads, and since they were extras purchased for the purpose of changing out my friends RX-8 parts, I had an extra set of tail lights that were supposed to be exchanged for the ones that I had until he decided not to take the smoked/blacked out items I had made for him. No big I guess, except that I didn't notice that on the driver's side taillight, some of the tabs were missing, only to be brought to my attention later. Anyways, on his vehicle, we did color match his corners from amber to the color of his car by misting them enough to hide the amber color, but left enough reflectivity to be functional. You might want to check with your local traffic laws before either smoking or color matching your amber corners. If you have the time and the patience to remove and prep your emblems, you can black them out yourself without having to spend a fortune buying them for what I saw them going for on that one site. Hope that helped answer your question, and thank you for the compliment on how they look. |
thanks alot for your help. i may do this.
