VS8 03-29-2009 11:59 PM

man i want this sooo bad

mrmazda7 03-30-2009 12:01 AM

I am in Dallas, Tx.
This is a direct swap.

WhiteSnowflake8 03-30-2009 12:06 AM

It prob be easier to just swap diffs than the gears alone. plus 4.77 could be for racing, and stock for street use... If i had money id be on this.

VS8 03-30-2009 12:08 AM

well im guessin he wouldnt want my 4.44 gears

rx8shift 03-30-2009 07:34 AM

Would this fit on a 2004 AT rx8? I assume it would

myriadshalaks 03-30-2009 08:57 AM

i'm confused now. i'm finding a new one from mazda for a grand.

I think that may be for just the ring and pinion?

hmm. interested. i got a quote to put it in. mazda says 6.5 hours, but it won't take that long. i figure i can get it put in for around 350.

what sort of gains should i expect?

Youre not going to gain anything. The car will rev up faster in gear so your top mph for each gear will be lower but it will get you up and moving faster.

mrmazda7 03-30-2009 02:10 PM

Yes, there will be no power gain. You will just have a little faster 0 to 60 time.

+1 no HP gain if thats what you're asking, its all about the gearing of your car. this would be an awesome upgrade.. so tempted....

myriadshalaks 03-30-2009 05:49 PM

that counts as a gain. i wasn't thinking hp gains. i meant what exactly was the overall benefit. and this was answered nicely. i had sort of a vague idea about why this would be good. now I know exactly why. so thanks.

and i'm still interested in this.

On a stock tire RX-8, the difference at the top of 2nd gear at 9k rpm is 68.84 mph versus 64.07 mph with the 4.77 gearing.

Mechanical leverage (torque) goes up by a little over 100 ft/lbs at the rear tires.

Yes, I am anal enough to have built an entire spread sheet which calculates this, taking into account everything down to exact tire circumference. :)

Or you can just use an RPM calculator online and save you some trouble! Lol!!

myriadshalaks 04-01-2009 11:40 AM

is this sold or what? i asked for more pics -- closer, underside-- to assure me that it wasn't damaged in the wreck, but nothing.

mrmazda7 04-01-2009 11:49 AM

I will post pics this evening

c41250n 04-01-2009 12:17 PM

im sorry, but what ration is our stock diff?

myriadshalaks 04-01-2009 12:38 PM

c41250n 04-01-2009 12:46 PM

SiLVeRE8 04-01-2009 01:21 PM

no it has nothing to do with the speedometer

Rpm calculator doesn't account for tire size does it? Or calculate ft/lbs of torque in each gear?
