Thats a pretty nice setup.

^ Not particularly stealthy though!

Surprised you've not had your window smashed for it.

What are you talking about? I supposed you had a better setup - where's yours?

TheWulf 08-04-2010 12:36 PM

specs/parts list?

I think I'll chime in here.

While I don't have the nav top, I do run a carpc. Everything is running into the trunk. Two reasons: 1 - you can't see it. It's nice to not have to worry about people in the back seats tipping over your computer. Moreover, it's even nicer to see their surprise when the screen turns on without them hearing the tell-tale whirrr of a pc fan.

2 - They can't see it. What's an easier couple hundred bucks than jacking a computer sitting in the back seat of a nice car?

You should take out tire repair kit and strap the acer in there.

Or rather, whoever you sell this to should put it in there.

Is the screen a touch screen? Are you just selling the screen? What about the rest of the stuffs?

Pm'ed but as above is the screen touch

Hi there, I have decided to put the Acer behind primarily because the following reasons. Anybody who is deciding to build one should consider the following too.

1) Cooling effects. The Acer PC is build to run as a desktop. By putting it in the truck, you run the risks of build-up heat.
2) Safety of equipments. The 8's trunk even though is strong and normally do not twist in a hit in the back accident, the force of the impact will most surely jerk the components within. Of course at this junction, no car pc is impact safe. What I did was to minimise the likely equipment damage.
3) Ease of use. The Acer has 8 USB ports + 1 DVD drive. I can transfer data or read data with ease instead of stopping by roadside and go to the back of the car just to plug in the device.

No the screen is not touchscreen. The touchscreen technology a couple of years ago is not that user-friendly. Besides I really love the touchpad, so easy to use by my side instead of raising my hand to touch a small screen as I drive.

Yes the entire car PC is for sale except the Acer. PM me for a close.

You wouldn't get me driving around with it in the back seat....that thing would take your head off in an accident..

Behind the rear pass-through with a USB hub in the front slider would be perfect :)

Nice looking screen setup though

Not really. The Acer PC is bolted down to the axiel of the car. Unless you are saying the whole axiel will come off in which case, that's a bad accident that could happen with or without the Acer PC.

I did think about the rear pass through with a USB hub but that means you will run lengths of USB cables that involves opening up various parts of the car - just to run a cable. Imagine the work involved!

Thankx for the comment on the screen :)

Let me know if you or any of your friends are interested in my setup. Just put your car PC at the trunk if you wish. Mine's a most flexible setup.
