I have a used unmarried Cobb Access port for sale, it has a couple of pre-made tunes

Which version? For series 1 or 2? If it's for a series 1 consider it sold :)

Nine13 10-04-2016 08:25 AM

I was using it for my 04 Rx8 and the Cobb is version 2

bwilk 10-04-2016 09:14 AM

All cobbs are for series 1. They never made a series 2 version. There is a version 1 and version 2 AccessPort. The difference is the connection used to connect to the OBD2 port.

This one is a version 2, you can tell because of the connection on the port being the black port on the bottom. There is also a Mini USB beside that port. The version 2 also connects to the OBD2 port with a single cable with the OBD2 port on one end and the proper connector for the black port.

The version 1 only has the mini USB, and the connector to the OBD2 is a grey dongle with a red OBD2 port that connects via a USB to Mini USB cable

All that being said, as a courtesy, I would suggest that you include copies of the installer, or even just the whole program files folder for the AccessTuner Race software that you have installed. It is no longer available on the website, and there are currently no intentions of bringing it back. So without the software, the cobb could have limited use

Thanks so much, bwilk. I didn't even think about the software being included or not. I just figured I could do and learn everything I needed to know about using it through searching this site, like I do for everything on my 8, lol. Kudos to you for going out of your way to be helpful.

We were all there at one point. I'm working on some stuff to figure out how much of a loss the AccessTunerRace software actually is. I just haven't had a whole lot of time to mess around with it.

I need to test if you can apply someone else's map to your car. I've already tested that you can edit someone else's map, and that seems to work. I haven't tried putting either the other persons tune directly on my car, or a copying then re-saving the other persons tune with my ATR software on my car yet, so I need to confirm that.

For some reason, there seems to be a rumor going around that they are somehow locked to the software you install. I'm trying to test the validity of that rumor. I know MazdaManiac could lock them, but I'm not sure it was the default setting.

Also, you can run the program independently of the computer it's on. Just so long as you have the executable for the file.

The only other thing I would worry about is if the version for ATR is the same/matches your car. The tables change depending on the year, domestic market and transmission. I don't know about the programs ability to move between multiple years/DMs/Transmissions. That would be irrelevant if we can install any version of the software on a PC to create and tune maps for any car, as we could just build a repository of the appropriate software.

I've read of problems with people downloading tunes from other non-verified cobb tuners in that when they apply them, the cobb just gives a Gray screen. However, if you can edit approved tuned however you want, that seems like a practical work around if it's effective. Now my only issue is trying to find a version of accesstuner online that works for me... having pre-programmed tunes is nice, but my end goal is learning to tune myself and having my own maps applied to my own specific vehicle. Not every 8 is gonna run the same diagnostics and need the same tweaks, and I'm not really interested in paying MM a couple hundred dollars to make individual tunes for me when that's something I'm aiming at learning to do myself. And similar tuning ports like the adaptronic are just not even close to the same price range or level of tech support as the ubiquitous cobb.

Still for sale?

My experience... COBB is grand if you have ATR for your year car AND linked to your COBB. I have an 04, I have moved it across multiple 04s, but cannot move it to a different year without ATR for that year, linked to my AP.

Rx8 cobbaccesport

Do you still jabe available? I am interested

Woldy 05-09-2017 03:59 AM

Still selling? Also Does it come with supporting program (accesstuner)

bwilk 05-09-2017 09:40 AM

I know you're the same guy, but I'm copying my comment from another thread:

I'm going to update these, as my comments are no longer fully accurate. Accesstuner for the 8 is once again available from Cobb. The only issue is that it is behind the EFI University paywall. So it's $150 bucks and some time to get the copy from Cobb. So best bet is still to ask for a copy of the installer/software.
