Aem help

okay heres the deal fella's

got an aem intake used from a fellow rotary owner the intakes in great shape..got some instructions from aem..pulled the vfad and caped the maifold nipple..got everything put back together bumper on maf on.. took the car down the road check engine light pops up..took the car to autozone to use there brain sucker multiple misfire..they wouldnt erase the code..brought the car home..BARELY the car spits at like 4500 and up and barley idles..checked the plugs all getting spark and burning the carmel color perfect plugs.. pluged the vfad back in still spitting..pulled out one screen in the rubber coupler on the aem still spitting..pulled out both screens still spits..i thought the rubber o ring was bad on the maf so i changed it to a thicker on for a tighter fit still spits..while the car was running i pulled the connector on the maf sensor to see if it was even working the car died soo it has to be working correctly..not each time i tried something i pulled the battery cables and did the 20 pump battery trick..im pretty confused on what the problem is..i think i may need to use my uncles cel and check engine light eraser..i dont know what else it is..

any takers on this problem..

My car can't go neutral past around 40mph after I installed my Racing Beat Duct..., it just shuts off the engine when I do.... wonder what the problem is... if anyone got some answers... haha, sorry for the threadjack.

first off you need to keep those screens in taking them out would only cause further problems. Secondly...this is posted in the wrong spot...try getting it moved somewhere else. This is the For Sale section

KrumbZ 06-01-2010 09:33 PM

idle problem is those screens. i know it from experience!!

shadycrew31 06-01-2010 10:20 PM

why is this in the buy sell thread?

renesisking 06-01-2010 10:26 PM

yea, wrong thread, but you need those screens in there. Put the OEM intake back in, run it, see how it is, if its normal, make sure the AEM intake is properly fitted and has the screens in the right place and the filter is properly put on.

faith&firepower 06-01-2010 10:28 PM

Why did the OP start 3 threads with the exact same info....you fail.

Krazed_Rx8 06-01-2010 11:00 PM

I think you have your screens installed incorrectly. Happened to me with my MS intake.. I actually SEARCHED & found out how to fix my issues.

sorry guys no disrespect to the club..just stumped and need my car moving and i knew on the fs forum i would catch some one who can help me with my problem..but i got a bunch of parts i may be selling in the future..looking into the sti addiction..so help me out and i will repay you eventually along the way..first to solve my problem get dibs on whatever they want im selling hahaha..i put both screens in still the same..im gonna take it all apart and put it back together can some give me a step by step on which coupler goes were and where the screens exactly sit anything would be greatly apperciated..i got a new tighter o ring for the maf sensor..put a tighter cap in the nipple but when i pull the cap off the nipple it smothes out but still misfires and spits..i researched up and down and cant find any results messaged a bunch of people still no solution to the problem..im gonna wipe out the cel and let the car idle for like 10 min tommorow and see what happens..ill be on all night guys enlighten me

You could have broken your MAF sensor.

living the dream 06-02-2010 08:30 PM

im gonna change it with one from the zone ordered one..i unpluged it from the connector on the back of the maf sensor the car started to die almost completley pluged it back in it smoothed out but still choppy..not sure what it is im gonna swap sensors this weekend

This is how your AEM should look like when installed.

Note the MAF Sensor position. Make sure you have two screens installed in the couplers to the right in the pic.. One per coupler. Another thing is to make sure the O ring on the base of the MAF is still there and not compromised.

living the dream 06-02-2010 09:23 PM

put a brand new tighter o ring in it..i have a screen in each coupler i have it in the screens in the front of the couplers facing the filter first so it wont get sucked towards the intake..

i cant get a pic of it up on my own damn thread haha

i took a pic but no idea how to bring it up

but as far as i can see its exactly the same im pretty good with anything thats has a motor..but this has got me stumped..i think its the maf..but i didnt get the cell until i caped the vfad what exactly is it designed to do i kno its a secondary air unit but there has to be a main use for it..the computer is fighting to find it and it is causeing it to cel and make a light the computer thinks theres a problem..STUMPED

living the dream 06-02-2010 09:24 PM

living the dream 06-03-2010 09:24 PM
