Bump

I think this is the same guy now trying to sell that R3. I hope he is honest with the buyer that now will just get cloth seats out of a sport model and NO Recaros !

Say what? I had my R3 on craigslist for a week in the Austin area with the option of either seat configuration. Nothing hidden. I decided to pull the trigger on a truck and traded in the R3. I've seen my car on ebay from the dealership, but I no longer own it.

What are you referring to?

gwilliams6 12-14-2011 10:07 AM

I think that is it on ebay being sold as an R3. No mention seats are now cloth seats and not OEM recaros. Did you offer the dealer the recaros, or just the cloth seats ? I think they would have wanted those recaros to help sell the car. You are off the hook, just the dealer being dishonest now I guess. Buyer beware !

A note to anyone thinking of buying the recaros. Great seats, but unless you are of slim build, those side bolsters on these recaros will drive you crazy after anything but a short trip. Not really made for the average American build. They are really designed for the average Japanese build. Go sit in a pair before you buy . I tried them myself and found them way too confining. Some car magazine reviewers made the same comment after driving in them.

I didn't offer the recaros to the dealer since their offer on the car was way below trade-in value. The car was inspected and valued with the cloth seats by the dealer.

In the dealer's defense, technically the car is an R3 since that is the car model. If someone argues the other way the same argument could be used if you swap the factory stereo out. That is an extreme example, but the same logic. Looks like they show pictures of the seats being cloth, so hopefully no one is surprised.

On your note to buyers, above you are almost arguing the dealer's R3 with cloth might be better for some folks :)

You are right on the seats. They are racing seats. If you don't want racing seats, don't buy them.

9krpmrx8 12-14-2011 10:57 AM

Luckily they took down the listing. If they are going to sell the car like that, there should be a disclaimer since it reduces the value and collectivity of the car.

gwilliams6 12-14-2011 11:01 AM

I would just hate for another RX8 club person to spend over $3000 to get your seats without realizing they may be too uncomfortable for long-term use. A little background ,I have been driving and racing RXs (stock and modified) since 1973 (owned seven of them) and in 2008 bought both a 40th Anniversary edition Rx8 and a Mazdaspeed3 GT. I have had recaro and other racing seats in my modified RX7s . They do make them wider than the ones Mazda chose to put in the R3, so any potential buyer should do the smart thing and find an R3 and test out the seats first before spending $3000.

And I agree with 9krpmrx8 anyone buying that R3 would be getting less value and collectivity having an R3 without the OEM seats. Hopefully they would have done their research to know what seats the car is supposed to be equipped with, and not get taken by the dealer.

Someone should try out the item before spending thousands of dollars???!?!?! Where do you come from, sir? Where did you procure such exquisite knowledge? Do you have a beard? I hear wise people have beards, and you, sir, are wise.

I sort of disagree with your logic. You are talking about a special edition car here. If you remove any of its components, at that moment the car stops being that special edition. So nobody can call that car an R3 anymore!

The seats on the R3 are a big deal on that edition. Same thing with the 19' wheels/tires. Did you consider swapping those as well? Lol!!!

In regards to whether the seats are comfortable or not, the next buyer of the car should have the option to determine that for him/herself.

I really hope you sell the seats and recup some of the money you invested on the car.

But I feel sorry for the next buyer of the car :(

All that being said, let him sell his seats.

None of this has anything to do with the R3 Recaro seats for sale in this thread. What they fit, how they fit, etc. has all been discussed in the proper forum areas. Just one example, search if you want to know more:

Bump for R3 nice seats. Just out of curiosity do you have a scale to weigh them for us? I believe these will also bolt into the MX-5 chassis, you might want to advertise in those forums too.

I covered and stored the seats back in the closet, so won't be able to weigh them until I pull them back out when they are sold. Thanks for the MX-5 tip.

So if you change the wheels on a car, then you can no longer call it by the original manufacturer's model? What if you have the seats recovered? How about changing the wiper blades? You can make arguments about the seats, but the reality is, it does not change the model of the car. The model is set by the manufacturer and many people change parts on their car without the DMV requiring a change to the title. Your logic is wrong. It was an R3 and still is an R3. It just has cloth seats.

Novoken 12-14-2011 01:31 PM

Let the guy sell his seats!!! WTH! He did nothing wrong. It was his car. He sold it and has the seats left over. Mods clean up this thread.
