This is my wifes Rx8. I wanted t start a thread to keep records of things I do to it.

The cabin air filter is amazing, keeps a lot of smells out of the car. Will buy again.

Today I changed my wife's RX8 Spark plugs, Transmission fluid, and Differential Fluid at 82,213 miles.

Used Mazda OEM everything.

OEM Spark Plugs, NGK
OEM Spark plug wires
OEM Transmission Fluid 75w-90 (2qts)
OEM Differential Fluid 80w-90 (1.4 qts)

It seems that the Forward Leading plug sticks out a bit because of thred on block being stripped. I prayed really hard and it all still works, so crossing fingers.

Ya...I want to keep track of what I do to the cars is all.

this is kinda a cool Idea..

So gents, you can definitely over fill your Manual Transmission fluid.

So I read 1.8gts and didn't listen. I kept filling until it came out of the fill hole...Stupid me, that was too much. My 8 started to smell like oil/fuel, and couldn't figure it out, then I read some where on here that it is common.

Wheeeew large dealership costs avoided...I drained some of the fluid out.

Just ordered a replacement Starter for the Rx8
 

My wife has been having some extremely long start times, about 3 to 5 second wait times, so figured since I just replaced the spark plugs and wires, I will replace the starter now.

Pickup a replacement (Remanufactured) Starter from ebay user: highampspecialist for $134.91.

Update 2/28/2014: Still have not changed the starter. Doing the coil packs first to see if that remediates the problem.

Yesterday my wife had issues with the RX.

Symptoms:
- Stuttering
- Couldnt get over 60mph
- Stalled

CEL:
-P0300 - Random misfire
-P0302 - Misfire cylinder 2

Next steps:

Update: 3/5/2014: Coils came in and I am changing them now...

Mazmart Coils arrived in 2 business days using USPS 2 day shipping. Well worth it.

Quick DIY:
1. Remove Air Box, and all tubs that attach to it from the vehicle.

2. Remove Air Inlet and all tubes attached (3). BE VERY VERY CAREFUL NOT TO BRAKE ANY, but if you do its Mazda part FEMJ-13-758.

2. Remove small clip directly above coil #1.

3. Remove gray plugs at end of coils, gently.

4. Removed and replaced coils 1 for 1, starting from the inboard most coil (Coil 4 in the above picture).

5. Reconnect all clips

6. Reconnect intake parts

7. Start car, and bring to warm.

8. Go for a drive

Coil Packs changed at 85,238 Miles.

Used: Mazmart OEM Coil Replacement,all four.

Noted: Coils 2 and 4 (Trailing coils/Top Spark Plug Coils) were in very bad shape.
After replacement, check engine light is gone, and RX8 runs like new. Power has been restored to the Bat Mobile.

Good until 115,238 Miles.

How has that replacement starter been working for you?

Byan, I never changed the starter. I was hoping to wait out winter, but the coils gave out first. So I had to replace them. After the coils packs were replaced, starting is just like new. So my issue has always been the bad coils. I will save the starter for later.

CEL 2 days ago P0037 and P0111
 

Filled up 2 days ago, and when I went back to turn on the car the Check Engine Light (CEL) came on. DTC: P0037/P0111.

Thank you Sato. I really do this to help keep track of what I have done, and need to do. I also do not like having to re-search an issue, when I have already come across it, so this helps me get right to the root of the issues right away.

By the way get an OBD2 reader/scanner, best investment for any Rx8 owner.

Do you have any particular brand of OBD2 reader/scanner that you recommend, or are they all pretty much the same thing?

Sato, you are more than welcomed to use my thread to help you out, I always like it when people keep it short and sweet, then I can fix my car, and help others too.

As for OBD2 reader, I picked up:
from Amazon. Why? well I dont need a super expensive one, because at the end of the day, I will always go back to google and search for the code there, I just wanted something that can read the code for me. So far so good, I have used it on the Rx8, S2000, and my parents Nissan, already paid for itself.

Awesome! Thank you very much! I will definitely look into getting one then! I know it will definitely come in handy. One of my close friends has already told me to get one too! He actually used it on my RX8 one time to find out my gas cap was not closed tightly enough.

So the RX8 keyless entry bottoms decided to stop working about 2 months ago.
The Card version FYI. The Card works just fine, to unlock everything, but the buttons on the doors and trunk do not work, and I have the RED key light on my dash.

Found that it could be the rear antenna. So removed the rear bumper and cleaned it, and removed and reset the battery, but no luck. I am going to buy a new switch then the antenna. I believe the switch is bad not the antenna.

Looks like the sensor right behind my bumper is different(FE95-67-6N0C) that what it is suppose to be, so I will have to order FE90-67-6N1B

When I push the lift-gate button, I clearly see on the card key fob, that it does not blink. When I push the door buttons, I can see that it blinks. Thus I will replace the button as well.
Currently I removed both lift-gate button and key-less antenna and sprayed them really well, but no luck.

IPHONE 4 and 4s trip for back glass swap:

So picked up an iPhone 4s and the back glass was cracked. ON the right.

I had a spare iPhone 4 laying around, ON the left. So I descided rather than buy a new back glass for the iPhone 4s, I will use the iPhone 4 back glass.

So I cut the one highlighted with the green arrow below, and it fit, with a small gap by the mute button.

Clutch pedal almost to the floor today.

Managed to make it home all the way from NJ to Maryland. Believe it is the Clutch Slave/Release Cylinder. :::UPDATE AND FIX AT BOTTOM:::

DIY 1: Clutch Pedal Fix

:::FIXED - 8/21/2014:::

1. Remove both sensors from clutch pedal assembly. Push in middle of the circled gold pin to release: Note I am only showing the clutch sensor here, there will also be an other sensor directly below the large spring.

2. Remove hood latch cable from clip hold it to the pedal assembly, and then remove the click from the assembly all together, using needle nose pliers.

3. Remove old clutch pedal assembly from car. There will be three(3) 12 mm bolts. The bolt by the broken weld, will be a pain to remove, just be patient.

4. Remove both sensors from clutch pedal assembly. The front sensor has a flip you can lift, and the rear sensor turns counterclockwise to get it out. BE GENITAL.

5. Received new clutch pedal assembly from mazdatrix 8/20/2014

6. Moved the 2 sensors from the old clutch pedal assembly to the new one.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that this clutch sensor looks like below (FULLY EXTENDED SO YOU CAN SEE SERRATED EDGES. PUSH IN UNTIL YOU HEAR CLICK, THEN PULL OUT):

7. Placed the new vs the old clutch assembly side by side, and made sure the master cylinder push rod was the same on the new as the old. Had to extend the new push rod about an 8th of an inch (toward the firewall if it was on the car)

8. Installed new clutch pedal assembly back into the car. Making sure push rod, seats well in master cylinder.

9. Key to on position, pushed clutch all the way down (HEARD Clutch sensor click into place), turned key and car started right up.

10. Went for a long drive to make sure all was well. New pedal, makes the car feel brand new.

UPDATE: 7/10/2015 - The pedal upgrade has been great...the feel is just slightly heavier than stock, but great. My wife tells me the pedal feels like the day she bought the car.
