nuke0907 04-02-2009 10:49 PM

you should paint the rotors and dust shield black.

MazdaEight 04-02-2009 11:19 PM

Yeah..maybe another day. I already put 5 hours into the calipers. Won't I have to remove the caliper to do that?

nvrfalter 04-02-2009 11:26 PM

not if you do it with a brush or tape everything off real nice

dshiznit1489 04-02-2009 11:27 PM

Where did you get the paint?? Looks great!

Yeah...looks like I'll be doing some more taping off, because I used spray paint.

This auto store I know of....I just gave them my paint code and they mixed it up and put it into a spray can for $15.

WhiteSnowflake8 04-03-2009 12:41 AM

Is it heat resistant?? regular paint isn't as good.

neXib 04-03-2009 02:53 AM

I was just going to ask, could I do this with a brush without removing anything, just cleaning with brake cleaner and steel brush?

Would take me too long if I have to take off a lot of stuff :)

cornholio135 04-03-2009 10:44 AM

Here is what i used... runs about $15 at parts store...

Yeah I was thinking about using that, but the auto store only had red and I really wanted to use the exact color of my 8.

I hope it holds up too...we'll see though. I will go take some pics as soon as it stops raining and get a nice day to give the car a wash.

this is my next cosmetic change.. cheap mod. luckily i have slotted rotors to replace the rusted OEMs already, so just take everything all apart at once. make it easier. I got the same kit cornholio did his with. 14.99 at autozone.

DOMINION 04-03-2009 03:31 PM

5 hours??? dude I did mine calipers right after I changed my brake pads lol
and yes black rotors looks way better than rust on a blue car. IDK about the dust/rock gard.
You did good. I like it :) mine are black.
Oh by the way you guys can use rustoleum paint from homdepot for $5 bucks a can and use them .75 cent brushes lol thats what I did for the budget and for something that is going to get covered in brake dust any way and look like rust in another 6 months lol

SideOfBacon 04-03-2009 03:39 PM

^ i dont like the oem rotors anyhow. already invested in the slotted rotors, just gotta stop being a lazy ass... i have slotted rotors, dustless brakepads and steel braided brakelines to install... with a kid due any day (2 days overdue), free-time is NOT in my immediate future either :(

Slotted rotors would be nice but cash is limited right now so I'm doing the cheaper mods. Soon I will be selling my bike and then I will start getting some more stuff.

It took me so long because I had to tape everything off...I didn't remove the calipers and used spray.
Oh...and your wheels look sick Dom...so flush.

DOMINION 04-03-2009 03:55 PM
