White with the Yakima Raptor Roof Rack

2 Attachment(s)
I searched a bit but didn't really come up with any pics of the RX8 with the Yakima Roof Rack system (I'm sure there will be at "4000 posts and counting" annoying members who will post pictures to the contrary). However, I thought this thread could cut through all the chitter chatter and maybe help out an actual cool mountain biker like myself

So my set up is the Q60 clips, Q Towers, 48'' Cross bars and two Raptor bike carriers (went with upright so I didn't have to shove wheels in the trunk or interior). The system was stable in corners (not as much as fork mount) and at high speeds and there was no grease blow out in the headsets or anywhere else for that matter (tested at 80 mph).

Here are the pics.

cool setup....can you still open the sunroof with the rack installed?

Can't say I would ever imagine seeing anyone put a roof rack on the 8, but to each their own. Hope you get some good use out of it!

I can only use the tilt mode of the sunroof with the rack on. There isn't enough clearance to open the roof all the way.

Oh and Moostafa29, the 8 is my only car so I make do with what I can. I love sports cars, mountain biking, snowboarding, and riding with family and friends - I can't think of a car that could do all this without sacrificing performance and looks. BTW the rack is never left on if it's not being used - now that wouldn't make sense....

Thanks for posting the pics. I have a Santa Cruz Blur and a Trek roadbike that I have been hauling in the wife's 4x4 P/U. It's nice to know that the 8 can handle a roof rack with no problems.

I don't have the guts to break down my bikes and cram them inside my 8 even though others said they had no issues.

thank you for posting these pics. i am also a biker and have been debating whether i should transfer my roof rack from my wife's car or install a hitch rack. how's the gas mileage with the roof rack.

Gas mileage? Hmmmm... never had a chance to check but all seemed normal on the first half of the tank. Mind you I only need to drive 30miles to the get to the trails... Not much of a trek. But really I don't concern myself with mileage too much - I was on this forum before I bought the car - I knew what I was getting myself into.

I was wondering about a bike rack...is it easy to take on/off, or do you leave it on 24/7? Heh...it does like kind of funny with the bikes being almost as tall as the 8!
