Video/Sound Clips of My RX-8 with BHR Midpipe and Racing Beat Exhaust

Hey All,

I installed my BHR midpipe last night and grabbed a couple of videos today. I'm posting this for anyone who wants - like I did - to know what the BHR midpipe (with catalyst) sounds like with the Racing Beat intake and exhaust. There were a few videos out there of people with this setup revving but I wanted to know what it sounds like under load. The short answer is: f'n awesome! I live on a quiet/slow street, so no WOT clip yet but I'm going to try to find a place to record one.

I'm not sure how to embed a YouTube video here but if someone wants to explain it, I'll do it :)

Edited to add: Honestly, this is how an RX-8 should drive and sound! Power delivery, throttle response, sound... it's all spot on. My stereo even sounds better because the ambient noise is so much better. Although, I have to admit that found myself turning off the stereo so that I could enjoy the sound of the car better :) Props to Charles and his crew.

So, I just wanted to add: I've put 150 miles on the car since installing the BHR midpipe and I couldn't be happier with it. It has a quiet and understated growl under normal conditions and opens up to a scream when you get into the upper RPM ranges. I love it.

Also, since I had them install the catalyst, no more CEL as soon as I drop into 6th, and my fuel economy seems to have improved drastically. I track my fuel economy in a spreadsheet, so I'll report back on that over the next couple of refills.

Sounds good! :)

Wait, catalyst? What? You mean catalytic converter..? O.o So you took out the BHR Midpipe..?

One of the options you can choose when you buy the BHR pipe is to have a catalytic converter welded into it. I chose that option :)

Good man! If only everyone was as thoughtful.

Thanks for posting that and please do post the next ones at WOT.

Arch, thank you for your kind words and please be sure to keep your ignition system in tip-top shape as any cat will be destroyed by weak/failed ignition coils, which is the #1 reason for OEM cat failure in the first place.

I certainly will! I installed brand new plugs, wires, and coils 3,000 miles ago and the car had a gutted cat, so they should be good to go for a while.

Thanks for the great product!

Is that an OEM cat? With that cat and the BHR setup, and say a cat-back exhaust, will it pass emssions as well as a stock vehicle in California? Does the replacement of the stock resonator with the BHR version and a cat-back have any effect at all on emissions, or is it only the intake and cat system that affects this? Reason I ask is because now that I know you can have a cat included in the BHR midpipe, I might want to get one, but only if it will pass emissions in Cali... Any insight here..? Thanks!

No, it's not an OEM cat. If you read over the BHR midpipe thread, you'll find the manufacturer of the cat (keep in mind it has changed over the years).

I have no idea whether or not it will pass CA emissions tests. I can't smell *any* exhaust with this new cat, which makes me (and my wife and 5-yr-old!) happy but that is not really a good measurement :)

Charles or anyone in Cali have any feedback on this?

A quick update on the fuel economy change: I just ran a tank to 227 miles and my previous record in this car was 190 miles. Definitely an improvement :)
