Took the RX8 out with the Ferrari Owner's Club (Pics)

http://pixelpainter.com/solara/PhreaksRX8.jpg

Hi there all, I thought after a few months of being a member, I'd finally make my first post. My name is Brian and I live in the Ypsilanti area of SE Michigan. Above is a pic of me in my '04 RX8 6spd.

This past weekend, my neighbor Mike invited me to drive along to an outing with the Michigan chapter of the Ferrari Owner's Club. He said the outings aren't exclusive to Ferraris so long as you can keep from slowing down the pack. Yikes! That's some pressure! But I decided to give it my best.

So I cleaned up the RX8 in about an hour ( OK, more of a wipe down ) and followed Mike to the meeting place. One of the member's house who just finished his 3300 sqft detached 4 car garage. :o Uh, this is bigger than my house (minus my basement). I had to see this!!

I followed Mike to the meeting place and felt rather intimidated when I saw the cars already there. You'll have to forgive me for not having the years on all of them and just guessing on the exact models. Here's the list of cars that participated in the run.

- Ferrari F430 F1 Spyder
- Ferrari 348 Spyder ('94)
- Ferrari 512BB (Silver)
- Ferrari Testarossa (Grey)
- Ferrari 355 GTS F1 (Yellow)
- Ferrari 355 (Red)
- Ferrari 308 (Red)
- Ferrari 328 (White)
- Dodge Viper ('95)
- Ford Mustang (w/ Powerdyne Supercharger and Cobra engine)
- My Mazda RX8 6Spd.

Cut to the chase already!!!

Click the link below to see pictures. (WARNING: There are a LOT of pictures! The photoshow will take a long time. Clicking on the album may be faster if you don't have time. Also, mute the music. It drove me nuts. BTW: I didn't put this together. Nice job Jennifer and her son! )

I have also attached thumbnails of the shots I took. (Again, I apologize that there are so many.) Quite a bit for a first post on this forum.

Surprisingly, I hung in there very well. The other FoC members asked if I would come out again as they enjoyed driving with the RX. I don't kid myself to think I can run down the Testarossa or F430, but I never let the gap between the cars get more than 20 - 30 yards. I simply kept the RPMs up and stayed in the powerband. I did feel I had the edge on the 328. Perhaps he was not trying hard.

Heck with trying to rearrange in order or explain what's going on here, you can figure it out.

There are a lot more pics in the photo show link above.
Enjoy! I sure did.

Sure looks like fun! Glad you had a great time!
Good pics too... Ahhh...all those prancing horses. :)

Frynge 09-20-2006 07:17 AM

our 8s may not have as much power as a ferrari, sure enough won't win on 'em, but they're still not really to be underestimated. I could see how having an rx out on the track for a bit of variety could make things interesting. I would love to do something like that someday. bet you had a blast. :)

PhreakdOut 09-20-2006 04:40 PM

Thanks for the comments. It was a blast. (One of the best weekends I had to date.) I'm glad we stayed on the back roads instead of going on a track. It would have been really embarrassing getting lapped over and over by that F430. (Must be nice to have that kind of money. His carbon ceramic brakes must cost half as much as the 8.)

I was not itchin for mods on the 8 till now. (hehe) The 8 is a summertime daily driver so I won't mess with it ... too much. I'll be reading all the old threads looking for minor mods I can use.

XDEEDUBBX 09-20-2006 05:05 PM

LMAO!! Hey I warned you in my post. I didn't put that together, it was the wife of the guy who owns the huge garage. (And the 355 of course) Sorry for the torture, I still can't get that music out of my head. It haunts me.

If you just click on "album" at the top it kills the music and you can skip right to thumbnails of all the pics. (Especially the F430. I never realized how HUGE that thing is in real life.) Next time, I will get video. (Strap it to the car or headrest) You have to hear the Testarossa and F430, it's quite erotic to a car guy.

Haha! The search function is a beautiful thing. I try to use it before I post. (Kind of an anti-noob thing) Actually was a moderator for another car forum so I know that gets on the nerves of users. Thanks for the comments! I'm starting to think about doing similar runs in the area with other RX8s. Now I just have to find them. There aren't many in the Detroit area. (that I've seen so far)

You might be surprised who drives Ferraris these days. I live in a very middleclass neighborhood and it was my neighbor that has the 348 Spyder. I get to drool at it across the street everytime he opens his garage. (There's another story in there but I'll save that for later.) Mike got me in and I found with exception to the red 355 and the F430, they are all regular Joes like us except they have very huge loan payments on their dream car.

Hehe - I would become their b!tch - no thanks. Uhh, then again I could really use a turbo.

Thanks! You would think the 8's body was designed by Pinnafarina and not in Hiroshima.

I agree. The 430 is larger than I expected and it is very loud (but orgasmic).

I normally meet my chapter up for breakfast but I have been unable to attend as of late. Nice pictures though and welcome!!!

WHY must people always say "the prancing horse?!" HE'S NOT PRANCING!! He's rearing actually.

those pics don't look to convincing, and what's with the rapper wheels? if that was really yours you should have gone with some HRE's, IForged, something that is worthy of that car. There's a guy here in town that owns a couple of Ferrari's, last weekend he had one (550) at a car show we were at that was lowered with Fikse's, needless to say homedude had his ride together something fierce. :)

redcivic 09-22-2006 09:53 PM

First, those old cars are weak IMO. I appreciate excellence but old cars are old cars and I'm not a fan. Second, that garage is not 3300 square feet.

overdrive 09-22-2006 10:43 PM

the garage could be that big if you include the 2nd floor... you cn see an open window on the left

flomulgator 09-22-2006 11:05 PM

Redcivic I'd take an '80's testarossa over a Civic any day of the week and if I cared to, reel in more honies than any souped up Honda ever has. Now where's my white linen suit and magenta t-shirt......?

You are correct, the bottom floor is not 3300 sqft. However there is the second floor. A set of stairs goes up between the Ferrari garage and the Mustang garage. Also, off to the right of the Mustang garage is another bay that I didn't capture well in the pictures. He had some John Deere utility vehicle in there. The spot had some potential. (So add in the full upper floor and you have it. I guess I'd struggle counting it "garage space" since I doubt he'll use it as parts storage or workshop. I would have done things differently though since I do all my own work. I would have gone for a loft instead of a full second floor and left part of the garage with high ceilings. (Enough for a lift.) I didn't see compressed air lines, lots of power outlets, TOOLS, etc. Obviously this guy has someone else do the work. (What fun is that?)

Bahahaha! Hilarious! I agree, I like the classics even though an EVO would shread it on the street. It's a trade off that really can't be compared. After listening to the V12, the Honda would really sound lame. ... Wait, they already sound lame. J/K - Sorry Red.

I have to agree with this comment, but it is called prancing horse quite often. (Even by Ferrari) I guess it sounded better than "rearing back horse". LOL

Here is some interesting history on Ferrari's logo and it's roots to the Stuttgart coat of arms. (Yes, I DID mean Stuttgart, Germany.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari This is good reading for internet information.

Very nice ride. I always liked the 360s.

Check out the brakes on this F430. Here's the shot I took.

PS: Sorry about the long single response, but I'm not into making a mess of response postings to raise the count. :) Just keeps it clean.
