There's snow in them thar hills!
Not too many shots of the car, but snow in the Bay Area is a pretty big deal...
Well I was bored at home today so i decided I would go and try to capture some of this beautiful scenery surrounding us. I wasn't the only one, and my usually empty backroads were crowded with family's in their oversized SUV's looking for some snow to play in. Mt Hamilton Rd was closed, so I didn't get very far (and neither did the family's) but I did manage a few good pics. http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9070_549.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9072_369.jpg Oh noes!!!!! It's my car! http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9073_107.jpg Oh noes, there it is again! http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9075_111.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9082_573.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9083_158.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9086_102.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9093_129.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9094_117.jpg All the other people that thought they'd play in the snow... http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9095_213.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9096_173.jpg http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9098_115.jpg Coolest cloud i've ever seen. http://www.cleoent.com/forums/files/dsc_9103_187.jpg |
That last cloud pic looks scary. It's like a bomb just exploded. To all who do not understand what the big deal is, we're in Cali and we treat every snow treatment here special.

nice shots, especially the second one with the 8 in it. nice composition.
|
nice close up of that observatory on that snow covered hill..
|
just a note, thats a hydrogen bomb.
Nuclear winter perhaps? |
oh snap, maybe it's a hydrogen powered RX-8 prototype that went ka-plow. ;)
|

|
Kind of got the same around here, I live at like 1000ft and we got some. This is like 20mi north of LA I'm talking about too, never had it like this around here before.

|
To me,
That cloud looks like a giant snow puff delivering a pan of pizza. |
Yeah, snow here in the Bay Area is crazy. Did you hear about the huge pile up on 101?

I love the clear sky and the definition of the clouds. I haven't seen that in a long, long time. In the midwest it is almost always hazy and storm fronts never stand out that clearly. The clouds are always hidden in the humid surrounding air or in an even cloud cover that's well out ahead of the front. The anvil-shaped cloud is a classic cumulonimus storm cloud produced by high-altitude winds shearing and spreading the upper levels of the cloud. Some pictures and info here:

Thanks everyone for the kind words. :)

Great pics! That 1st one of the RX has some kinda highlighting. Growing up in Walnut Creek I always looked forward to that one storm in March that would dump snow on Mt Diablo. Fresh spring green garss, mustard yellow flowers blooming along with the Pear tree blossoms and ... snow on the moutain!
We had snow to about 600' in the folsom lake area Sunday AM. |
very nice ... great shots.
|
I was out during that storm, at a local business when all the Cali locals start running to the windows. As they pass I can hear them saying "look its snowing". Stupid people, it was hail. :)
