I think it had something to do with chassis rigidity or aerodynamics and I believe it is something the rally drivers wanted.

SiLVeRE8 12-19-2008 01:08 AM

i would take the old sedan version over the new hatch version any day... the hatch just havent grown on me yet because it reminds me of the civic si hatch...

thebiggdaddy 12-19-2008 01:19 AM

I agree, the new STI's has grown on me as well. I also hated the Evo X's, but those have grown me.

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 12-19-2008 01:50 AM

A.Mair 12-19-2008 02:16 AM

i see, to me it reminds of the Toyota Starlet Turbo. probably why i like it so much. but then again, i have always loved hatchbacks, From starlet turbo to nissan pulsar AWD GTI-R .

but i can see why it would take others to like the STI hatch back a little longer.

i never liked the civic hatch back, due ot he front being to short.

I actually believe they made it hatch only to adapt to the new rally wrc rules, which is ironic because subaru just pulled out of wrc due to the ecomony

you are correct dills. which makes me wonder what the next sti would be.

kersh4w 12-19-2008 11:29 AM

i thought the hatch shape is more aerodynamic.

Because it's not an improvement over the previous one and supposedly it's heavier and softer and not as "raw" to drive, which is the only reason to own a WRX in the first place.
I just don't like the shape of the new one, it looks more like some kind of wannabe crossover to me than a true hatch. I love hatchbacks and I've tried to like the new scubie, but so far it just doesn't work for me, maybe I'll get used to it eventually or something :dunno: Either way,

http://carview-img02.bmcdn.jp/carlif.../305077/p1.jpg

is way better than the hideous wing and awkward shape of this:

http://carview-img02.bmcdn.jp/carlif.../377601/p1.jpg

just my opinion, I'm sure it's still a great car, just not my cup o' tea. :)

i dont blame you for hating on this car. looks like it can go back into time. the wing is fulgy. but i do respect your opinion. i feel when a person does the wrx right, it sure looks pretty.

yeah, like I said, I probably just need to get used to it, some of those pics aren't half bad for the new one, but the older ones just wear their mods better imo :dunno:

aye, i am a huge fan of the mid 90's 2 door imprezza. the one that every thinks is ugly lol. but the previous sti is heck of a looker. btw ill be heading up to austin to visit some friends. we need to hook up :)

pdxhak 12-19-2008 04:47 PM

The wing on the STi in these pics look terrible!

Having said that, I really like the new front of sti and IMO looks much better. The tail lights really throw off the looks. They look much better tinted red or smoked.

There is a blue one running around by me with smoked tail lights, lowered, black wheels, and a tasteful CF front lip. It looks aggressive and clean.

They are Advan Kreutzer Vi's in a custom finish. Pretty standard for MS/M'z concept/show cars to use Advan wheels. The original MS show car had custom gunmetal Connoisseur 51C's, the second (cool blue kit that they never ended up making) had Model 5's and the '09 MS concept had Model T5's.

The Kreutzers are good looking wheels, I love simple 5 spokes. Too bad they don't come in the finish that's on those show cars.

oh snap man, I'll be up in Mckinney for 3-4 days for Christmas, other than that I'm down.

soooo.....now that we've dissected the new WRX, how about the new Evo? :D:

SiLVeRE8 12-20-2008 12:55 AM

for some reason the new sti just doesnt look like an sti... but i think i will eventually grow into it just like how i did with the previous triple grilled wrx. but i think the sti will look a whole lot better if it has red out tail lights though.
