SpeedSource 8's in Jan ed. of "Sports Car International"
Nice little 3 page write up with some good pics. The article states that the team got a motor before the cars and that they did over 800 dyno pulls and ended up with "15 more horsepower than the road car - 265hp vs 250." I assume that their motor was the j-spec motor which makes 247hp, meaning they actually picked up 18 crank hp. Considering the modifications (Motec ECU, K&N filter, gold plated intake box, and a 3" exhaust w/o cat.) it seems even race teams are having a hard time getting more than a few hp out of each mod. On the bright side, the team had nothing but good things to say about the cars brakes and suspension. And the editor that wrote the article summed things up nicely with the statement...
"The fact that the RX-8 is so competitive in its first year of racing in tightly controlled series like Grand-Am Cup is a testament to the standard car's performance."
There are many other great cars reviewed in this issue of the magazine. But as you can tell by the quote above, there seems to be some grammar errors along with a lot of other editing errors. I have counted at least 5 obvious mistakes; one place it says 0-2 mph instead of 0-60; another place refers to a later article in the magazine and uses the wrong title; twice in a review of 2 Nismo 350Z's it mentions that the one car has a new cam instead of cams; in the review of the Acura TL it says the car has steering wheel paddle shifters, when in the interior pic you can clearly see that the car does not have paddle shifters but a manual selector in the shift gate.....and so forth.
