Hey Guys, the ten dollar answer: AutoCad 2004 and Mastercam 9.

This message board is not meant for advertising but if your interested in how much better the stubby performs over stock I'm trying to figure out how to measure it. Was thinking comparing GPS route stats on similar runs thru 6th gear to about 6000 RPM. Who knows, other people might want one. I know I'm fat and happy with mine and have won 98% of the confrontations on the road. Hit me back at:

if youre looking to measure any performance benefits from the shifter, log a 1-2-3 run with a gtech and calculate your shift times..is it just a knob or an entire shifter?

Watch that baby after parking in the afternoon sun! That was the one thing I did not like about the billet shiftknob in my 240SX. I kept a pair of flight gloves in the glovebox for days like that.

epitrochoid, it's just the knob. Most people add quick shift kits which means pulling out the boot and replacing linkages etc. The 8's have pretty short throws stock. The reason why the knob goes through quicker is it's a heck of a lot lighter than the stock, there's less inertia, you can anchor a boat with the stock shifter. The stubby shifter is about an inch shorter from the top of the internal threads than the stock, so you are actually getting a shorter throw without having to pull everything apart. The closer to the boot, the quicker you can run through.


B-Nez, I was concerned about the heat problem. The strange thing is if you're running the engine hard and shifting often it's barely warm, I'd say it would be good for the winter time. It's when you park for more than 30 mins. or so, the heat from the tranny goes right to the knob. When you start driving again it's hot, but quickly cools in a couple of minutes. It's not much of a problem, you don't touch it much to begin with, and after awhile if you're the type to rest your hand on the shifter all the time, I guarantee it won't be too hot for comfort. I'm in Houston, and it gets friggin hot like most of the West. I always drive with my hand resting on the shifter. Don't fear the heat, dude.

I'll try to devise a way to test the times (if possible) for the fun of it...
