Nice video. I haven't seen that before, but I'm sure that other people on here have.

Your RX-8 looks great in your sig. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with black.

Behind the front driveshaft huh?
Sort of wierd how they were first sort of bitchy about the slalom results... something about understeer and rough ridin' dsc...

That was interesting, thanks for sharing.

My comments:

Narrator claims the digital speedo in the RX-8 is hard to read and a downside for a sports car. Anyone else find the speedo hard to read?--not me. I think a tach should dominate in a true sports car, not a speedometer.

Narrator mentions something about how the Japanese have come a long way in brake design because the RX-8 stops a few feet shorter than the BMW. I think this is due to the fact that the 330 ways probably a few hundred pounds more than the RX-8 requiring more brake power. I'm sure the 330 equally impressive braking capability and a more true comparison would be on brake fade over repeated stops.

It seems the writer doesn't know Mazda's intent on the concept of the RX-8. I believe it was designed as a true sports car that would be somewhat more practical to appeal to a wider market of driving enthusiasts so cargo space should not be a focus of comparison as the RX-8 is cleary more focused on sporty looks and light weight (a required ingredient in a sports car IMO) than cargo space.

I've always loved BMW's especially the 3-series but this one looks rather bland and anonymous compared to the standout styling of the RX-8.

She got the fuel consumption part right somewhat but the rest of the package you get with the RX-8 easily outweighs this flaw IMO.

I also disagree with the comments about the cornering/slalom comparo. I have no doubt the BWM corners excellent but the RX-8 got some unneccesary negative remarks. Turn the DSC off in the RX-8 and drive with a little more finess and you shouldn't have those problems the narrator mentioned.

I've been on this board a long time and I haven't seen that before for some reason! Thanks for sharing. I never thought to compare these 2 cars. It was always RX-8 vs. G35C vs. 350Z vs. S2000 vs. Mustang...

The 330 gets the engine advantage, just because it's a delight, wtf? And the rx8 has more costly service expenses than a BMW? And funny how she didn't factor in a bunch of other car characteristics in the end.

RC?

Bad review.

Auto Motor Und Sport is a German auto program I have seen on a local PBS TV station. I haven't seen this episode before. It seems they lean to the BMW in the subjective reporting of this episode. Are they biased? Could be.

Nice find.

Sounds to me like they are biased but then put something in there to compliment the 8 so it want people mad at them!! Nice find I have not seen that one before either.

"Revolving cylinder" and "reciprocating engine"... she sounds like she's reading from a textbook and doesn't know what's under the hood of any car. One wonder's if 'she' actually drove either of the cars or was just reading a script. The Wankel engine is German, yes? Why not call it a Wankel or simply a rotary?

Otherwise, decent review, except I don't know where, out of the blue on negatives, the "high cost of maintenance" came from? Strange, nothing was mentioned before, and besides, BMWs have low maintenance, yea right.

Of course I don't agree with the result, looks more like a draw, but whoever the actual reviewer was seemed to like a solidly planted rear end (or perhaps better to say a solid bit of reassuring understeer) rather than a 'fun' rear end one that lets you play a bit.

ROFL, BMW have low maintenance cost ....... this chick have no idea wtf is she talking about.
RX8 have WAY lower maintance cost than any BMWs ... (their parts suck ***, freaking breaks down like crazy)

They dont have to say 100% good stuff about 8 because nothing is perfect, but come on.

Stupid Review

ok maybe for german standards this a comparo but not for us

she goes 33k eu for the rx8 .. that makes it $40k and we buy it for 25-32 .. i dunno how much you need to save on gas in the bimmer to match this .. not to mention that bimmers are more expensive here that in DE

service costs are probably higher in DE as well for japan cars versus home grown .. so its really the economics there that justify her opinions .. for us its a pretty straightforward *** kicking for the 3series

Yeah. Someone buys an RX-8 because it is a sports car... not because of the awesome gas mileage or huge trunk.

Someone buys a BMW for luxury, comfort, and better gas mileage. That's why they make different cars for different people.

I just like the fact that they mispelled consumption when listing out the pros/cons for the BMW near the end. Losers.
