RX-8 straight off header

Did this while replacing cat, thought it would be funny to hear how loud a rotary gets with no exhaust

Enjoy!

mmmmmf! sounds sexy!

Ross_Dawg 05-06-2009 01:11 AM

badass man... I wonder how long you could drive around without getting pulled over ;)

Spinning Sushi 05-06-2009 01:14 AM

More like... how long you could drive around without catching fire. :)

I saw RX3's & RX7's race with open exhaust in the late 70's & early 80's. This was before noise regulations. At high revs, the sound will be painful.

Damn, sounded pretty nice when you were giving it a little run down the road!

Gr8Bullet 05-06-2009 02:19 AM

haha try that with a 20b now thats something to hear.
sounds really nice tho.

Catch fire? Why would it catch fire?

Spinning Sushi 05-06-2009 02:35 AM

If he's driving in stop and go traffic then all of the exhaust gases will gather up in one spot and there's a lot of flammable material right above the transmission. I'm pretty sure the driver will be suffocating as the exhaust gases seeps through the hole for the shifter.

Eric1987 05-06-2009 02:45 AM

I've never heard that happening with piston engines. Is that rotary only thing?

Spinning Sushi 05-06-2009 02:48 AM

RX-8's are known to catch fire once the cat gets clogged up, rotaries also runs alot hotter in stop and go traffic than reciprocating engines. I believe that there's a high risk of the 8 catching fire very easily.

Easy_E1 05-06-2009 02:52 AM

Do you want 1800 degree(as high as) exhaust under your ass?

Eric1987 05-06-2009 03:08 AM

Holy shit 1800 degrees? What do piston engines run?

altspace 05-06-2009 07:09 AM

We did that too, except did not drive down the street.

I can attest to this as that is what happened to 2004. Burnt the wiring, E-brake cables and a big hole in the rear passenger floor board. Black smoke came out of the center armrest and pieces of parts on fire falling to the ground from the center of car. Smoke kept coming out for about 15 minutes. Insurance paid off and just got my new 2008 Anniversary Baby.

All I can say is it was loud as hell when he backed out of the garage. Ill have to put a clip of the straight pipe we took off his car and put on mine. Im 50/50 on how it sounds. It sounds to rice in the car. :icon_no2:
