Rotary Anniversary

I read somewhere that by definition, build threads must take over 6months to complete and anything less is a install thread. So this is my picture/install thread.

I want to start documenting my progress as im installing parts, but i have a bit of pictures that someone might enjoy going through.

A little background, studying Industrial Design at NJIT in NJ, i love making stuff, so you will see some little doodads that i made myself.

2 days after i got her. Washed and waxed.

This install was plagued with problems, the tip was defective with brush marks and a fingerprint in the Ti coating in the tip, and somewhere along the shipping process the exhaust was dropped and dented the opening which meant the tip couldnt go on correctly. Told Brice at RaceRoots about it and he hooked me up with a new exhaust.

Clear corners installed! Did it on the side of the road waiting for my gf to get ready.

Installed my sprint springs, got them gently used from EZKAI in cali. This is sprint spring height with oem bilstein 40th anniversary shocks.

REAR oem wheels and tires:

FRONT oem wheels and tires:

Attended my second grand am race!! my first with my mazda! Unfortunately it was mothers day and the gathering was nowhere near how it was when i came the first time. The mazda corral consisted of 3 rx8's RIWWP came, and this guy in the pic next to me. 3 miatas and 2 speed3's came. None were picture worthy to be honest.

painted my towhook colorshift blue and purple. i like it.

height pic, after a wash.

got a CAI gently used on the forums.

took 6 hours stripping the paint and polishing with sandpaper my oem strut bar to match the intake..FUN! nearly sanded my fingerprints down. I have a DIY up if anyone is interested.

Intake and polished bar together

my mazda stuff

Custom Tow hook license plate relocation. I think i have a DIY up for this too, not 100% sure.

I liked seeing the internals of my engine bay without the ugly tray that kept on collecting dust and crap in those little holes, but i wanted to keep intake temps down at idle. So i did both. I used polycarbonate and i have been driving with this for 3k miles now, no signs whatsoever of melting or bubbling or anything. This is just a prototype. Im going to make another one soon with only 3 different sheets. I just wanted to see if it would work and not melt, before i spent $80 on 1 big sheet of polycarb. This project costed me about 50 bucks.

took the protective coating off...

With my friend Alex, who recently traded his 8 for a zenki S14, with a RB25 swap.

Went to Rotorfest, and 10 miles before I got there, my car decides to eat ****.
Apparently a whole bunch of things went wrong. after I put the intake back on after putting the polycarb tray in,
1.i neglected to check the screens in the intake and it was completely sideways in there.
2.my gasket on my maf was broken, fixed it with some electrical tape so i could get to the event and get home.
3.2 of the wires werent seated 100% on the coils i just swapped out the night before.
After a hard launch from a stop sign, the car bogged and then shut off, scared the **** out of me.

This is my friend Alex's car. (alexisonfire) screenname

Pre-Meet caravan meetup for rotorfest, you can see my brother's Mini here.

I got top 50 in the car show at rotorfest BEETEEDUBBS NBD

Some more school pics, of course a prius has to ruin it. I think NJIT has the most rx8's in 1 college in the US. its a little ridiculous, there are 4 more not in this picture.

track wheels that i dont care about breaking to be honest.

If i had money to blow on sets of wheels i would. I have my eye on other things that take priority though. Eventually i will be buying an FD, so i want something that fits decently on the rx8 and then is transferrable to the FD. Ill eventually buy authentic baller wheels for show, but i want to get reliability mods done, along with an Amuse exhaust from Japan, and a few parts from shine. I dont want to get into it too much here.. but i have plans for 300-350rwhp with reliability mods for 450+. Single turbo swap. Hks performer coilovers, etc etc etc. I want to build a "grip king" For now, the konigs are more than adequate, especially DD'ing to school every day. If i break a wheel its no biggie.

though, if i find a set in the right size used, i will jump on them in a heartbeat. I love the wedsports, especially their slate gray with white inside color option.

I think i may have figured out something, but finding a piece of metal long enough and cheap enough to mess with is the issue now. I could just buy one cheap at mcmaster but ive gotten lazy since i raised my car barely anything and i dont scrape anymore.

Great job on the build! i love what you did with the polycarbonate intake tray. Did you do anything with the extra exhaust hole on the passenger side of your car, or just leave it open?

Thanks!

I have not had time unfortunately to re-make the intake tray using only 1 continuous piece of polycarb, though i plan on getting to it some time this semester at school.

Right now the other exhaust hole is open, I like the look of it. The only thing i can imagine fixing that hole is to make a custom diffuser.

nothing much has happened recently with my car besides lots of autox, been saving money for wheels and im torn with saving for authentic wheels or buying replicas now.

2 deals fell through with SSR competitions, Im kind of liking the way the Mag Blue CE28N's look now though.

I lied...

Lots of new updates / pics

Moved into my new house, picked up my first tool chest for under $300 new at home depot.

Had a bird go through its cycle on my windshield.

First in class at a AutoX, got a trophy and a tshirt.

Midnight run to walmart for icecream.. i swear the car looked better than this shitty phone picture.

outside my driveway warming up

I got REALLY SICK AND TIRED of gas attendants getting confused at my gas cap... (normally the string from the cap ties onto the door lid somehow.. the rx8s string does not go there so they pull it.. get confused why it wont reach and then just drop it on my fender. So i tried to help them out.

APPARENTLY this is still too difficult to comprehend. As if matching colors together was too difficult, i also wrote instructions... IF they couldnt do both i even made an arrow... But nope, still cant figure it out.

Last semester at school.

Bought this rad cap from Sifu.

^ and pads, ET500.

I like them, though may get the more aggressive pad next time. Or get a separate compound for track days.

thanks
