Retractable key for MY 05

This is from the Japan press release for the MY 05.

"Retractable-type key: Stylish and easy-to-handle key as standard equipment. First adopted among Japanese auto makers. "

Also new is a standard anti-theft immobilizer.

It does look nice but I still prefered the standard key, one less thing to break.

It contains the alarm/door/trunk buttons right? Otherwise I can't think of any justification for the added bulk.

That looks very cool but for some people who like to toss their keys on the table when they get home can potentially chip or break a key fob like that.

IZoomZoomI 08-20-2004 12:41 AM

all in one aye? nice...

actually one of the reasons its designed for is to prevent the keys from scratching things when they are tossed like that. Very sleek and useful too.

I would lose is...If my keys wern't on my laynard...i'd lose them, sorta like i'd lose my head if it wasn't attached to my neck.

I want one
how much

Drnrg 08-20-2004 06:22 AM

looks like a mercedes key.

robertdot 08-20-2004 06:53 AM

Either IBFubar or someone else said these might be retrofitted to the 2004s. I'd like one, but even still the rotary shaped key is still pretty cool. But if it is all in one+"retractable"... that's pretty dam cool (and cooler than a rotary key).

A buddy of mine has a VW and I love pretending it's a switchblade.....wanna fight!! Yah---ow....switchblade.

Rxdriftingaction 08-20-2004 10:46 PM

i want too.... how much. if i ask the dealer will they give me a new key. xi xi .. i want to change my key to 05's ha ha ha ha ha.. and.. will they change my car to 05 if i ask them nicely?

loco4rx8 08-21-2004 10:47 AM

I also definitely want one if they make them available for the 04s. I've always coveted my friend's VW key. I'm lame like that.

I like it, but I'm a little confused as to how it works. I assume the buttons for lock/unlock/trunk, etc. are on the other side - or does it open up? And does this fit on a key ring, or do you have to carry it separately from the rest of the keys? If the latter, that would be kind of a drag. Very cool-looking, though. Thanks for posting the picture.

Thatstoo much like a volkswagen----no thanks

mobilezen 08-21-2004 11:09 PM

Crossing my fingers that it will be available for the '05 models. :) Those are so cool.

RotorGeek 08-21-2004 11:44 PM

i' hoping it works with the 04's . The rotary key is nice but this is more compact

ÜberJumper 08-22-2004 12:50 AM

Someone did mention in another thead (that I posted this picture in) that you could order a 05 style key for 04s. I think I might just get one :-)

I luff my VW key fob.

Deslock 08-22-2004 12:02 PM

I'm also interested in getting it for my 04, however, it looks like it'll be larger than the VW version.

we have the same thread going on in the Interior/Audio/electronics area...

Super Moderator Omicron got the attention of Japan 8 who is going to go fishing around in Japan to see if he can find a contact for a Mazda OEM part of it...

Here is the thread and here is the Animated Pic:
