Racing Beat vs HKS Hi-Power comparison

Just a couple quick clips of my old RB and new HKS. Both are with the RP resonated pipe.

Not the best videos but you can get the basic idea. I think my camera auto-corrects for volume (to prevent that annoying crackling sound when it's too loud for the mic) so it's hard to tell the difference in volume.

Edit: forgot to add some flames...

...and the fact that people are listening to the sounds of an exhaust system through speakers, of which most people don't even have full sound quality to match the tones, or the recording equipment to truly capture it. Haha...just not the same. Sorry, I always find it silly. The clips really make it sound like a weed wacker when I know it does not.

it is pretty raspy though. From about 4k-6k it's actually a tad on the ricey side... in that rotary kind of way though. I actually didn't like it at first but it's grown on me for the most part. It has a terrible drone at cruising speeds in 4th gear only for some reason... so that 40-45 mph range can be annoying.

Racing beat def. I laughed pretty hard in the second vid when you got to the end of the run and all i heard was some huge backfire

Yeah... it's louder than most firecrackers, but I actually like that part lol. When I'm cruising at like 3k rpm, I can put light throttle for a few seconds then back off and get some backfire.

nice comparison!...love the backfire!

Yupp that's exactly how my goat reacts. Although, it is constant backfire at any RPM above 2k. And above 4k... my friend calls it T-Rex

mike[piston eater] 11-18-2009 12:51 AM

ive had both, and lets just say im back with my racing beat i just think its the perfect tone

DVS RX8 11-18-2009 01:06 AM

That doesnt sound right at all i agree with altspace.
Its miles off in terms of the pitch tone

altspace 11-18-2009 06:38 AM

Right? It cracks me up people really judge from computer speakers. Good vids nonetheless.

Mazurfer 11-18-2009 07:40 AM

I'll stay with my RB, thank you very much.
Nice vids though.

I also agree with Alspace and DVS X8. you can not compare the audio clips on a computer captured with a handheld vidoe camera.....

Still great vids to watch.

the HKS beats the RB hands down in weight and in a fewr other catagorys.

Yea
Audio clips from youtube to determine sound or tone are very similar to people using a butt dyno to determine horsepower.

Nice vids-- love the flames

I know it's not a good representation of each exhaust at all, though it does give a general idea of how they compare. I'd say comparisons are closer to a dyno run. One run means nothing since you never know how inaccurate the device is... the second you can make a comparison based on what you observed on the first run. It's hard to pick up exactly how it performs in real life, true, but you can still get an idea of what it's like.
