Nice, I was going to use a nrg quick release with mine. Did the steering wheel end up closer to you or is it the same as the stock wheel?

R80MAV 11-26-2012 12:10 PM

nice thread idea, ive been contemplating getting a nardi or sparco suede one

Momo is an italian parts maker
The japanese branch is just a dealer basically.

I would never trade an airbag for a cool steering wheel on a street car anyway.

I like the S1 steering wheel, and i will not change it. The S2 steering wheel on the other hand...yes, i will change it.

MC8jai 11-26-2012 08:50 PM

LOL, I know MOMO is an italian parts maker. They have different lines of product in different areas. Hence MOMO in Japan, but is all cool if you like your stock steering wheel anyway.
Maybe you should start a stock steering wheel thread.

Looks badass!! What hub are you using and do you have the quick release?

04Green 11-26-2012 10:13 PM

This looks like a good place for this question, anyone using a factory series 1 wheel with a quick release? Sounds like a great way to extend the wheel a bit for those that need a little more seat back recline.

Different bolt pattern...
I have works bell rapfix II and short hub... even if the stock wheel did fit it would protrude too much :)

MOMO Hub
NRG Gen 2.0 Quick Release Anodized Purple with Neochrome Ring for extra gangster points.
MOMO Mod.08 Suede 350mm Black Spokes

This is a lot closer to the driver than stock but this is due to my seating position. Going to have another 1" spacer fabbed up as well to bring it just a little closer and shim the steering column to move it down, the tilt ran out of adjustment.

Heres a bad photo of a Drift wheel in an RX8.

Is there an aftermarket wheel with an airbag anywhere?? I feel like I'm chasing a dream. I'm finding the standard wheel a bit too slippery and the shape isn't quite right. It's certainly not a deal breaker but it would be nice to have options and the manufacturers I've checked (momo, Nardi, Sparco etc) don't seem to have any. They must be out there surely. Thanks.

bse50 03-20-2013 03:53 AM

Airbags aren't just bags filled with some kind of explosive. Their size and shape depends on the car. So does the inflation timing.
An universal airbag might do more harm than good.

I still haven't figured out how to wire up the horn to my Nardi steering wheel, any help ?

Fair call, that's a good point. I'll keep looking into it though as its bugging me a little bit, however I'm not overly optimistic judging by my success rate so far.

This probably the best option for anyone wanting to retain an airbag. I was just wondering how hard it must be to install it.

Ill have to get you guys a photo of my AutoExe cover with thumb pads.... I used red thread and it really makes it nicer looking imho

Stephen T 03-21-2013 02:04 AM

That'd be great, it might be the best option. Just looked at your thread, nice!
