Photoshop request : Tinted tail lights.

The tail lights are well, busy, very busy. It looks like a bishop's hat. Lets tone it down or something. Can someone tint it to say red for the red lights and yellow for the signals. Thanks.

The RX-8 tail lights are a styling element on this car that is not going to age well. I would love a more "european" looking solution. Right now, they look like something you would see on the back of a Honda Civic at Dairy Queen.

I don't think the RX-7 lights are a good fit. Although the car itself has aged incredibly well, its tail lights would look kind of "frankensteinish" on the back of the RX-8. The RX-8 cannot be bettered by integrating styling elements from the 7.

When Lexus came out with "rice boy racer" tail lights on the IS300, the motor press derided the styling element as pandering to the tuner car scene. Now they're common place. In 20 years, they'll be like tail fins -- you'll be able to date the car within 5 years based upon the style of the brake lights. haha

I wish the fad a quick and painless death.

Out of curiosity... Does anyone think they'll actually be driving an RX-8 in 2024? Or any car built in 2004, for that matter? It seems to me most cars built today are designed for the moment, since most of us are willing to buy a new one every two or three years.

I don't think designers really need to worry about aging when it comes to cars. It's not like they're skyscrapers. In a way, it's like planned obsolescence (sp?). If they put trendy bits on our cars, while they make buyers happy for the moment, it just another incentive to buy a new one when the trends change.

Your english was fine. I think a couple of folks might have gotten hung up on your "Bishop's hat" simile. Maybe the Bishops in Malaysia have fancier dress than in the US. :D

I agree a more plain design could be interesing. The overall shape is right, just simpler lens. Without all the internal eye candy.

zyran 05-31-2004 04:06 AM

Actually I qouted Jeremy Clarkson's (Top Gear) comments.

6speed8 05-31-2004 08:44 AM

Personally, I like the tail lights and do not think them too "busy". The RX-8 tail lights look much beter than 90% of the boring ones on most cars.

I really don't care what Jeremy Clarkson thinks or anyone else for that matter. I chose the RX-8 for the TOTAL package, not just for this-or-that. For anyone that does not like certain features of the RX-8 like the lights, or the digital speedo, or the rotary shape in the seat headrest, etc... I ask, why did you buy the car?

I think the RX-8 (including the tail lights) will age VERY WELL. Anyone that looks at the car as a COMPLETE vehicle will see both front and rear lights are like matching bookends, symetrical as they can be and both have very good functionality to go with their form - indicating a good design.

bowman 05-31-2004 08:56 AM

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

zyran 05-31-2004 10:20 AM

The car is very very very beautiful in the overall package, but it can be better or worse seeing some aspects of the car differently. Its worth a shot IMHO.

Shocka 05-31-2004 11:56 AM

i was just saying a taillight similar to the rx7 not full across though.

basically the same structure but blacked with circles.

Personally im never changing Taillights on a car again! my civics rockin the Altezzas and it was not worth the 200 i shuda gotten an exhaust with the lil extra
