Painted calipers and rotors
 

I decided to paint my calipers and brake rotors black. The center of the rotors got rusty all the time and the calipers were just simply unsightly.

I think it came out OK. At least it is way better than it was before.

Last picture shows how the pads cleaned up the uneven paint edge on the rotor surface. Now it looks as it was intended.

:lol: I guess our ideas of OK differ. But I agree it probably looks better than rust.

Should have used more of a silver/grey color on the rotor because...It would blend better :dunno:

Is there a reason you didn't mask anything? You were almost there, just a little sloppy for my taste. But if your happy with it then it's all good.

I don't think so... besides, black is really easy to fix if anything happens to it.

Well, if you mean the rotors, there is really no need because the brake pads took off anything that got in their path, so those look perfect after the first drive.
I did mask the brake pads (or better said, I tried), but somehow the paint got under the painters tape at several places, unfortunately. Could have done a better job there for sure. However, honestly it looks much worse on the photos than in real life, and it is really not noticeable at all. If you look at the pics with the wheels on, that's what you see now. It ain't perfect but much better than it was.

I hate that damn rust so I think it turned out well. Looks good.

I say nice effort, can't knock a guy for getting some DIY on the car, but I agree that you should have masked off the rotor. If what I see in the last 2 pics is truly what you see right now walking to your car, then it looks very sloppy. I would hate to see what happens to that paint on the face of the rotors after a few drive cycles with the rotors heating up and cooling down.

As I said, during the first drive the brake pads cleaned the rotors where they touch. So right now, the rotors look just perfect, a sharp line around. I guess I'll have to take a photo of them just to prove it :)

I knew that this will happen, so I didn't fret much about masking the rotors.

I painted my calipers a few months back and tackled the nasty rust on the rotor hat at the same time. Spent a bit of time with a wire cup brush on a drill, then masking everything off, but I used plain old bbq black paint on the rotor hat and also cleaned the dust shield off as well and sprayed both. I did a quick sample piece with that bbq black aerosol I had and the color turns more of a flat grey after flashing so it blends in really well. Did the dust shield while I was there just because it had a little surface rust and might as well clean it up. I like yours though, seeing rusty Sh*& through a set of nice rims :banghead: really ruins the whole idea of a clean, sharp car. Take care
