NorthWest RX8 Dyno day pics, etc.

Thanks to those who made the trip out! I think there were as many rx8 owners who just showed up to hang out, as there was who actually dyno'd. Fantastic! :)

Here's my car's 'before and after'...the redline is my car last year, Stock w/ M-Flash, < 3K miles

The higher line is my car today, with R-Flash, RB intake and RB Catback, and 16k miles. Fairly substantial gains in the higher rrpms, I'd say. Over-all peak power went up by 11, but more at some points in the curve - as shown the difference is greater.

Here's another - both were 1st-6th gear runs. Ignore the choppiness of the 1st few gears, the car was shaking on the rollers. Note the substantial (for a N/A RX8) increases between the two plots. This run (5th gear) was my car's highest number-reached, of 197.

Note custom intake manifold:

Group watching a very nice MS-Kit RX8 run. I say the MS kit gave him power, as he made 197whp with just a RB Catback as his only mod. Unknown flash - 27k miles.

Silver. Downforce didn't help while on the dyno. :)

Guys - post up and claim your pics! :) I don't rememberl everyone's name, so that'd help too!

what is that DOHC ford doin in those pics?

Blue87Sport 01-21-2006 08:09 PM

Nice pictures as always, Darin.

The first picture below your dyno charts is very interesting. If it is an RX-8, it has more than just a custom intake manifold done to it. That thing have a Hemi in it?

Nemesis8 01-21-2006 08:10 PM

Awesome - how did you get back so quickly and post all this up?

dannobre 01-21-2006 08:18 PM

Nice Mod Darrin...is that your car :D Didn't know you liked Ford engines. How the hell did they get that crammed into your 8 :D:

dmp 01-21-2006 08:20 PM

I LOVE ford Engines. :D

I How did YOU get back so quickly, Kevin?? lol...I got to my Dad's for taxes in Kent around 3:20...left there at 4, got home and started fixing pics and vids.

:D

And yeah, w/ my new 5.4L Kenne Bell SC'd V8, I've lost my car's 50/50 weight distro - it's worth it, however.

Raw scans from Carb Connection

I picked up 16.9 RWHP and 6.2 FT/LBS of Torque over last year. Mods are Unorthodox Pulleys and the CZ. My fuel map is not perfect, and the timing map is zeroed. I did not have time to get the Innovative Wideband installed to properly tune the maps. I used an older fuel only map, and it looks like 13.3 at the peak HP. Need to fine tune it now. The only other bolt on I could add will be the header.

BlueRenesis82 01-21-2006 08:27 PM

you jammed a cobra engine into your 8? wow

This really bothers me - Note TaeYung's dyno (blue) over-lapped with one of my runs.

TWENTY-SIX HP difference...and wtf is up w/ my A/F ratio????

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...id=68362&stc=1

I'm REALLY hoping the 11K miles more his car has is the difference.

Indeed- Adobe makes a universal engine-swap kit. :)

BlueRenesis82 01-21-2006 08:37 PM

ok maybe im reading that wrong, but it looks like your car is putting down 197 hp?

dmp 01-21-2006 08:38 PM

Yeah - did on one run. The other guy did on a few runs.

BlueRenesis82 01-21-2006 08:41 PM

ok, so how much power are you expecting on that?

damn,i just realized that its a lightning motor.....

dmp 01-21-2006 08:43 PM

On my car's motor? I expect 200whp eventually - or, 238hp at the flywheel - what the car SHOULD have had, stock. ;)

:D

Actually, the engine was from a Mustang Cobra - 550whp, if I recall.

BlueRenesis82 01-21-2006 08:45 PM

I thought Cobra's were 4.6 DOHC, but I don't keep up on em as much as I used too. Those cobra engines sure do sound good thru a Borla exhaust, just a mean growl.

Ducky 01-21-2006 08:57 PM

haha.. damn there was evidence I was there with my daughter... must... hide... pic.

Nemesis8 01-21-2006 09:05 PM

There was also a 562 HP Procharged C5 Vette there with Nitrous! It had Borla out back that was awesome

lazi 01-21-2006 09:08 PM

ncie vid. not bad on the numbers

dannobre 01-21-2006 09:58 PM

Darrin: I think part of the difference comes in the way the ECU handles the closed loop to open loop transition. Yours went into open loop later than his....the leaner A/F in closed loop won't make as much power. Your A/F was the same ater the transition. It seems that the load variable with time must alter the transition point. If you can remember if you went straight into 5th without a coastdown....or if you had a wait to drop the startup RPM it might give us an idea what happened. I got the scanner working on the way home(...and got some tires too :D::))as per usual :( I really wanted to get logged runs that would have shown us a lot of the data that we need to see what the variations are caused by.

Better luck next time I guess :(

Nemesis8 01-21-2006 10:00 PM

Oh yeah, got it working on the way home ehhh :)

dannobre 01-21-2006 10:02 PM

Ya...it ran all the way home without crashing......it worked great........what's up with that :(

e46328 01-21-2006 11:16 PM

hey DMP, thanks for posting the vids.
I am glad my car did pretty well w/ just racing beat cat back :)

I've got a vid of your car on the dyno if you'd like me to post it - shows lotsa smoke and stuff and junk. Oh - and I think I kept the pedal at about half-throttle between the shift; is that what you mean?

ECHO1 01-21-2006 11:58 PM

don't forget about that twin-turbo gto up on the lift :Eyecrazy: though i think the boosted and juiced c5 wins in the wow factor department

kudos darin for putting this all together!
