New tint job

Just got my car tinted yesterday and thought I would flash some pics. Its 20% in the rear three windows and 35% on the fronts. I would have gone 20% all the way around if I was going to be staying down here in NM lon-term, but Missouri's legal limit is 35% for the fronts. It definitely seems to cool things down a bit, and hopefully will keep some of the NM sun at bay. Time to pull the winter tires/wheels off...

nice... ur car is galaxy gray right? it looks darker then ti gray for some reason...

N10S 03-24-2007 03:10 PM

Yes...

.... it is Galaxy Grey, and a bit darker than the titanium grey. I love the color because the mica flecks in the paint shift the color from dark grey to a bluish-purple sort of tint at times, and at other times it seems to have a gold haze over it. Thanks for the feedback!

Tint looks very nice :) Tinting was the first thing I did to my car because I needed to do something about the heat living in South Florida it gets pretty hot. I went with 15% in the back and 25% in the front and it definately helps keep the car cooler.

Nice. Big fan of 35%. Puff Daddy raps about it so it must be the standard... :)

Wait a minute. I'm confused. (as usual) You're in New Mexico and you have snow tires? :scratchhe :scratchhe :scratchhe

You don't think it snows in New Mexico.....go look up what the highest capitol in the United States is. That's right!

funny thing is that NM got more snow this year and earlier than we did up in CT. i'm originally from there and my family still lives there.

You know, this is my 52nd car and I have never paid to have my windows tinted before. Some cars came with tinted windows when I bought them, but my hard-earned dollars have always gone towards go-fast mods for my cars. Being down in NM though, the sun is relentless and I really don't want it to fry the interior.

As far as the snows, I actually spend 2-3 weeks down in NM, and then back to the St.Louis MO area for a couple of weeks at a time. Southeast NM has gotten a bit more snow this year than last, but its the 1000+ miles of potential snow and icy road conditions between NM and MO that worried me. Never really needed them this year, but as sure as I hadn't had them, I would have been in trouble.

Thanks for the positive comments on the tint..it seems to be a worthwhile functional investment that adds to the look of the car.

New Mexico rocks. I used to go skiing in Taos as a kid.

N10S 03-24-2007 11:14 PM

Hmmm..I think that part of NM around Taos is pretty decent. Unfortunately I am down in Southeastern NM just south of Roswell in a town called Artesia. Great business opportunity, but a really ugly place, with lots of flat scrubby desert, oil wells, poisonous gas processing plants, a big smelly refinery and lots of dairly farms. No offense to people that have lived most of their lives here and love it, but it is hands-down the worst place I have ever been stuck. It is however fairly warm in the winter which is a plus.

I left a very fun and adventurous (think flying into remote winderness areas in bush planes and helicopters)job in Valdez AK where the scenery and temps were at the opposite end of the spectrum. I wouldn't even have the RX8 if I was still up there though, so theres always a downside to everyplace you go I guess.

whoa, 52nd car? jeez!

I have 5% on the rear and 15% on the front, and I love it! a dark tint really gives the car a mean look.

the legal limit here in MO is 35% like you stated but there is pretty much NO cops issuing tickets for any violators of this law. At least in the kansas city area. You could have safely went with the 20% or even darker if youd like.

N10S 03-25-2007 12:29 AM

The law in Missouri used to be no tint at all, and if the State Troopers (a serious lot in Missouri) caught you with tint they would razor knife it off in an ugly fashion. This was on the St.Louis side of the state, and I think we probably have a larger population of troublemakers that the cops have to contend with than in KC, at least it seems that way based on the small amount of time I lived and worked in KC.

I was looking at the car this afternoon, and its very difficult to see much of a difference between the 35% and 20%. I considered going with 20% everywhere and say screw it, but the end results look ok and I am legal with a receipt to prove it.

i was born in alb. and then my family moved to los lunas when i was a teen. for college i moved away and haven't looked back. it's nice to visit but i feel you on not wanting to stick around there for too long and couldn't imagine being that rural.

caaahhlvinn 03-25-2007 11:18 AM

i currently have 35% all around.. and i'm thinking about doing the same thing over the summer..
