New Rotors and Painted Calipers

4 Attachment(s)
Just got done with this, NO MORE RUST! The rims on our 8's are so open I just couldnt stand looking at rust anymore. Here are some before and after shots.

NavyDood 08-08-2004 11:41 AM

Which rotors are those?

JOHNRX8 08-08-2004 11:43 AM

Rotora's , I got them through Vivid Racing.

moRotorMotor 08-08-2004 12:16 PM

Any performance advantage? or is it for looks?

mysql101 08-08-2004 12:31 PM

I took off my wheels yesterday, and cleaned the insides of the rims. They were coated in a rusty colored dust. No doubt the rust that gathers on the roters comes off during breaking, but they don't go far :(

JOHNRX8 08-08-2004 12:56 PM

I do notice some improvement in the brakes, but mostly it was for looks. Hopefully it will last, I hated the rust on the rotors and the inside of the rim. Plus the rotors were aready painted, even the "inside vented part". I did repaint the part you see to match the color of the rim, I though it would look better than the black.

Lacroft3 08-09-2004 04:52 PM

How much were the rotors?

JOHNRX8 08-10-2004 10:08 AM

$533.00 total with shipping.

ScudRunner 08-10-2004 01:07 PM

I don't suppose you happened to weigh either the rotora's or the stock rotors???

JOHNRX8 08-10-2004 02:12 PM

No I didnt, but they felt very close to the same.

NavyDood 08-10-2004 06:56 PM

Now my question is....

Are these just OEM rotors drilled and/or slotted? Or a total aftermarket rotor?

ScudRunner 08-10-2004 07:03 PM

do you still have a stock rotor from front and back that you could weigh?

JOHNRX8 08-11-2004 11:52 AM

NavyDood, They are total aftermarket rotors, just the same size as OEM. ScudRunner, Yes i do have the original stock rotors, I'll weigh them and post soon.

ScudRunner 08-11-2004 07:42 PM

awesome...thanks

xxdevilzeroxx 08-12-2004 01:45 AM

what paint did u use to paint ur calipers? is regular Dupli Color Engine paint ok for rotors? i think they resist till 500deg.

JOHNRX8 08-12-2004 06:14 PM

Weight of OEM rotors

1 Attachment(s)
I weighed the rotors with a 50 lb. shipping scale, I think it is quite accurate.
Rear rotor= 12lb 6oz. ea.
Front rotor = 18lb 3oz. ea.
I got the paint at Auto Zone, The #SP-735 Cast Alum. matches the OEM rim color exactly! And its good to 900F.;)

Looks good, I like the Rotors, I painted my calipers with G2 paint. the blue is sup[risingly close to the car color. I also got some decals that I think look pretty smooth as well from Nine Thirteen Motorsports, I found them on here.

09Factor 08-14-2004 06:36 PM

Maybe I'm wrong, but since the front rotor is larger wouldn't weigh more?
I was talking to Huff recently about these. Good stuff. Any plans for a brake line upgrade?

Looks great IMO

JOHNRX8 08-16-2004 08:29 AM

OOPS! Yes i reversed it, the rears are lighter than the fronts, I edited the post. Thanks for catching my mistake.

09Factor 08-16-2004 09:26 AM

Also I have heard the SpeedRacer bought the same set from Vivid. just haven't seen his write-up yet. how many miles so far ?

JOHNRX8 08-16-2004 10:31 AM

I have about 150 miles on them, and so far they are great. I actually had a problem with the left rear brake not working properly and told my dealer about it. They ckecked the brakes and said they were fine. Well, when i repalced the left rear rotor i noticed it was not wearing properly, Dealers Suck! So far the problem is gone, hopefully it wont come back. The Dealer also over filled my oil by a quart, and i didnt ckeck it till a week later, it was passed the top line by a 1/2 inch. I called and they said to bring it in. Dont no if it caused damage to anything, but I'm not happy at all with this dealers service, going to find a new one.

VividRacing.com 08-16-2004 03:28 PM

Nice pics. Glad to see that you got them on there. Keep us posted on your long term impressions.

JOHNRX8 08-16-2004 04:07 PM

Just wanted to clear up my last post, the brake problem i had was before i put the new rotors on, since then the brakes are great. Maybe there was some air in that line...not sure. And thanks Vivid, nice working with you guys, I'll keep ya posted.

veilsidev1 09-02-2004 11:37 PM

Detroit RX8 09-03-2004 05:14 AM

Man those Rotoras are SICK!!! Real improvement, IMO. Enjoy them safely! I'd be looking to do the same sometime soon.

Anyone have an idea of how much these compare to stock in weight?

thrustn 09-08-2004 02:20 PM

do your brakes still squeak with the new rotors?

WOW!!! how are they holding up? I get paid this week!:D

DOMINION 09-15-2004 11:00 PM

:o

JOHNRX8 09-16-2004 08:47 AM

They are holding up great! I have noticed increased brake dust in the front but I had lots before to. I think they really give the car a hot look and would reccommend them to anyone. Vivid was great to deal with also. No brake squel or squeak. I am planning on getting the Volk SF challenge rims which will really complement the rotors! I will post pics. when i have them installed.

Jeffjett 09-16-2004 09:22 AM

Now that will look great!

Yea me too. Volk SF-C all the way;). And yea thanks for the up date. Now I just have to order my set :D.

RotorManiac 09-18-2004 03:11 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Volks are very light rims, right? I love light rims...
Where are the pics?:)

JOHNRX8 09-20-2004 10:52 AM

I ordered 19x8.5 SF Challenge , They should be here by friday, should have pics. by next tuesday. They weigh 22lbs ea. The tires i got are Toyo T1-S Proxies, (245-35-19) Those weigh 23.8lbs ea. The total should be about 1.1lb lighter each than stock.

RotorManiac 09-20-2004 12:34 PM

People say that stock rims are 21.5lb so I reckon that the proxies are much lighter than the potenzas, right?
You'll have the same setup on all 4 corners?

JOHNRX8 09-20-2004 01:41 PM

Yes, The potenza's are 25.9 lbs. And yes, i will have the same setup front and back. This will allow me to rotate at least front to back, as the proxies are directional, side to side is not an option. I dont feel there is a real need to increase the width of the rear tires, wheel spin is not a problem and it takes away some handling IMO.

RotorManiac 09-20-2004 01:47 PM

thanks for the info!
what about 225/40/19 front and 245/35/19 rear? this way the wheels are almost the same size in diameter with stock, they differ only a few milimetres. I've done tha calculation on this site:

http://pw1.netcom.com/~sgalaba/tiresize.htm#ustires

speedo doesn't get messed up... very small difference. I'm saying this 'cause I think 245 is way too thick for a front tire, in my opinion...

JOHNRX8 09-29-2004 11:17 AM

Well, the rims are in but the tires are not available. So i just ordered Perreli pzeros neros.
They should be here by friday and hopefully pics. by next tues. Perrelli's are only 23.0lbs and are rated pretty good. Time will tell!

09Factor 09-30-2004 08:13 PM

RotorManiac 10-01-2004 05:53 AM

It looks really mean:) nice job
