mud flaps on a vr 8

I've noticed a lack of pics of mudflaps BOTH FRONT AND REAR on an rx8 so here there are

next project:
chrome gas cap

side aero flares

and putting on a spoiler all by myself

Thanks for the pics. I put "splash guards" on the front of my Whitewater Pearl more for functional purposes rather than asthetics. I guess they work OK but not great. I was wondering how much the back guards really help keep the car clean?
BTW they look nice on your car!!

Arent the rear mud flaps pretty much the ones that come with the appearence package?

heespharm 02-25-2005 11:53 AM

ummm just put the mud flaps on... I'll get back to you in a day or so (it's going to rain for the next 2 days

and the second question...: there are 2 things you can buy if you don't have the apearance package (should have gotten it cause now i'm installing everything anyways by hand) 1. is the aero rear wheel flare (comes with the appearance package) and 2. are the splash guards/ mud flaps i chose mudflaps due to the 150 dollar difference in price.. it think they look "good enough"

I have mudflaps too and I've always sort of wondered what they would look like with the appearance pkg. side skirts and front end (not sure how well it would flow) - has anyone else tried this?

As far as keeping the rear clean, I only ever seem to get a little bit of spray up by the top of the wheel well, the flaps do a GREAT job of keeping the rear end clean.

I have the front splash guards on mine (not on my avatar) and they not only keep some rocks from hitting the side flares, but they seem to complete the appearance package. I wondered why Mazda didn't just include them w/ the package. It looks SO much better.

You mean you guys actually drive your cars in the rain?? :)

I have the front mud guards mainly to help with kicking up debris, but I did notice some abrasion on the leading edge of the apperance pkg side skirts.

For this fact alone I should get them, the look is not too bad either IMO..

Nice! And I'm very impressed with the polish on your paint. Looks extremely good.

I have the mudguards on the back right now, and the front ones on order (my '8 came without either initially). I love the back ones. Easy to install, and I think they look good.

Do you know what the difference is between the splash guards and mud guards? I thought they were one and the same, just called different things by different people.

Best,
Bill

thanks dude for the props.... i actually only wax my car monthly-ish and wash it weekly...

one note about installation on the rear flaps.... those tabs you are supposed to cut out... just twist them off witha pair of pliers...

I just installed a spoiler, and front and rear flaps in under 2 hours.... very easy installl.. a real do it yourselfer

Rear mud guards

The rear aero mud guards are larger and flow with the side aero flares...

Car looks great!!!

Xyntax 02-25-2005 05:32 PM

The rear aero are wider but shorter. I did this comparison at our meet last year. I parked next to a Red 8 with rear aeros and mine (with rear mud guards) actually looked lower. The mud guards stretch lower and makes your car look lower from the rear :D

Oh, ok. Thanks for the explanation. But now that you say that, I'm not sure which ones I have. I guess I'll just call them "AeroGuards", and call it a day. :D

Best,
Bill

mcstin can you show me some pics of the front splash guards on the whitewater 8?

Xyntax 02-25-2005 06:31 PM

The rear aero I meant was the rear part of the appearance package. It is different from the mud guard that you can buy later. I think no RX-8 out there has the rear mud guard off the lot. Mine didn't have an appearance package so I bought the front and rear mud guards months after I got the car.

mcstin 02-25-2005 06:42 PM

I would be more than happy to post pictures of the white front splash guards except I don't have digital camera!! I will try to borrow one before I go out of town next week. BTW I ordrered mine thru Rosenthall and the white was an extra $15. The color match was very close but I don't think it is perfect.
