What's wrong with the halo's

Matrx8 10-06-2012 10:09 PM

I don't like the way they look.

9krpmrx8 10-06-2012 11:23 PM

You have to drop the front more man, RX-8's look better with rake and your front looks higher than the rear. Keep at it, you are almost there.

Matrx8 10-07-2012 06:28 AM

Will do, thanks 9K.

Oh, and Lordagrabah, your sig says "Never argue with a dummy because the dummy always wins."

I believe the saying is "Never argue with a dummy/moron/idiot, they'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

LifeAfterRx8 10-07-2012 03:47 PM

Should drop the front a bit more or raise the back slightly to even out the ride.

Front looks a lot higher than rear.

Honestly, I would keep the headlights. New headlights are around $800-1200 each NEW for the HID ones and that money can be used to save for a new turbo set-up. ;)

1200 for 2 i believe..

In my opinion i would either trade+cash on your end for oem hid's. and spend the money you would on those headlights on wheels that are more than $350 each. You have enough money for all these parts but buy super cheap wheels. For the 1200 you would spend on the lights+$ from trading them for oems you could buy Authentic volks/advans whatever second/third hand.

check out Home › WheelFlip.com

If you still want to be cheap about wheels, then buy a replica, i dont really care. Anything is better than those wheels.

The wheels absolutely kill it for me, not aggressive at all, and almost no concavity which is not necessarily required but i love concavity. Theres no lip on it, its basically just a flat face.. ugh it just bothers me.

Matrx8 10-08-2012 02:17 PM

Ya know, I saw some Rays I really liked but I don't remember where I saw them or what they were called. Now that I think about it they might not even be rays... Oh well, guess I'll just have to live with these.

lol

9krpmrx8 10-08-2012 02:44 PM

Those are Volk G25's and they are sexy. They come in two faces in 18 x 9.5" spec. About $1,000.00 each.

Matrx8 10-09-2012 12:03 AM

yeah, owch. Well if I do get new wheels they're going to be nice so looks like the Tenabes are staying for now.

So hey stock tires are 8 1/2 wide if I'm not mistaken, I have 25mm spacers which is almost exactly 1 inch, would it be safe to assume I could upgrade to 9 1/2 wheels all the way around? Is it better to have larger tires in the back than the front? I'm curious cause just from looking around it seems most people who upgrade have wider tires in the back than they do the front.

1)no they are 8.8582677 inches wide, or 225 wide, lets call them 225 from now on.
2)do you mean tires? a lot more goes into it than width, theres a thread dedicated to these questions, search.
3)seriously? search.
4)wtf really? thats not the case at all.

related to your wheel discussion above, i highly suggest looking at wheelflip, deals are to be had on volk/advan/wedsport/etc etc etc.

dont pussy out and buy weak wheel sizes either. if your modding this much, you have abandoned practicality and this should not be brought into future discussions. Whether it is hellaflush or super meaty tire you are after, then do it. but we can all agree that sunken wheels look bad, unless your massive race tire setup is awesome looking.

Since we are accepting limited practicality, dont buy all-season tires next time. They are so dumb on your car. If you are concerned about rain just buy direzzas/DWS's and call it a day, you shouldnt be pushing you car that hard on streets in the wet anyway.

Matrx8 10-09-2012 06:14 PM

I'm not trying to make it hellaflush, hellasunk, hellajacked or whatever. I just want it to look nice without my fucking tires getting destroyed. I don't understand how people have their tires that close to their fenders without their tires getting ripped to shreds. I'll look some more in the tires and suspension section.

MaD666MaX 10-09-2012 08:01 PM

lower your car a bit more, find some nice wheels in 18x9.5 +25 or lower offset and you are all set.

no dont use wider rear wheels, square setup is fine.

I'm lowered on koni yellows/tein s techs, and I have 18x10 +42 with 265/35/18 all around. I dont have my fenders rolled or my bumper tab shaved and i've never had a problem. You just have to know how to drive it. As long as you have good alignment specs you should be fine.

Matrx8 10-09-2012 10:45 PM

I don't have the luxury of living in a nice town with nice roads. I live on an old military base with horrible bumpy roads and bad driveways. Turning onto a different street is the worst. My alignment is fine, at least it doesn't drift to either side if that's what you're referring to.

Neither do I, South Carolina has some of the worst roads I've ever seen. I'm stationed at shaw afb and its one of the oldest bases in the Air Force. At first I thought I wasn't going to be able to get around but I bit the bullet an tried. You have to pay more attention when you're driving but it's worth it. As far as alignment goes search around for alignment specs for wheel fitment.

Im lowered atleast an inch lower than you(matrx8) on a much much softer suspension setting and im fine, though i am using stock wheels and tires. It really is a lifestyle change, no more speedbumps for me and my whole route to school changes, though I have a problem with scraping my bumper/midpipe more than i have rubbing issues with my stock sizes.

9krpmrx8 10-10-2012 09:49 AM

All I hear is a bunch of weak ass excuses. The roads have very little to do with it. With proper prior planning and the right suspension you can run a very nice wheel setup without rubbing.

Does Enkei use the same 73mm play it safe centerbore as many wheel manufacturers or do they make them vehicle specific from the beginning?

Well you gotta understand man, I have 0 previous experience with cars beyond general maintenance. This is the first *nice* car I've ever owned and I'm trying to do it right. I'm learning a lot about terminology, about how things work, and what looks nice, but it's a HUGE learning curve. I mean jeeze, Eric remembers what I was planing on doing to it before I saw the light, he talked me out of it for christ's sake. Thank you by the way. You'll notice I'm not like some of the other noobs that come on here, ask for advice, then when they get made fun of or don't hear what they want to hear they go ballistic. I've made a lot of mistakes on this car. Costly mistakes, I'll be the first to admit it. But I guess sometimes that's the best/only way to learn. and I'm definitely open to advice.

You should also know that power/performance is not as important to me as looks. Sorry. If that makes me a ricer, more than I already am (lol) then so be it. As 9K already stated,

It's already a rice mobile, just finish what you started.

Now, here's my plans for the car right now.
First, try to fix the wheel height as was suggested. I can do that myself this weekend. I might raise the back temporarily to avoid damaging my tires any more than they already are.

Second I want to paint the hood and roof like NYC Drift King's car. I also want to remove the CF wrap and clear coat from the MS Wing and paint it the same black as the roof. It didn't turn out as I imagined and I think it looks kinda stupid.

Third I want to replace the headlights. The red halos look amateur to me (surprise surprise they are).

Fourth I want to replace the wheels with something nice.

I'm not necessarily going to do any of those right away, but that's first on my priority list. I'm not entirely sure I want to turbo it due to it lowering the life expectancy of the engine. Oh, and the cost, that too.

I'm also going to plastidip the black on the doors gonna make them green, maybe the mirrors too. Do you guys think I should do the badges too? I'm jk about the green :p

9krpmrx8 10-10-2012 05:10 PM

We all buy mods and do shit that we regret. It's part of modding, sometimes we jump the gun and don't think things through. I have bought plenty of things that never made it on to my car. My best advice is to just take your time and choose mods carefully. No matter what you do someone will always knock it because style is subjective.

Oh, and never use platidip on anything.

Rotary-RX8 10-10-2012 05:32 PM

where did you get your ms wing ?? How was the fitment

Matrx8 10-10-2012 07:44 PM

Haha, rogger that 9K :)

I got the MS wing from yale02 who happened to live 20 minutes from me. Fitment is good, it's MS and designed for the car. My only problem with it is the bottom piece rattles when you close the trunk.

Plastidip is awesome for preventing rock chips on side skirts. I use it on the front of my sides inside the wheel well :)
