Hey all
we had a good meet up at my home to do a install on alex's
tanabe front sway bar.weather was good and alot of fun
p.s a 14mm wrench is what we used vs a d.i.y that recommended 12mm

one side is scuffed when i curbed it-long story but i should of hit the 3 hoodratz standing on the corner.but they will be on soon as weather changes

is the front sway bar his first performance mod? if so is it going to really do anything to enhance the performance?

Cobalt: It is the second; first was the MS front strut bar. That helped with brake pedal and front end stiffness. The sway makes the car feel very different - cornering is much better but tramlining is worse.. The road feel is very precise now. Probably a must-do mod for autoX....

Lots of photos but skimpy on technical detail, eh? Since you are the "mastermind" behind the whole install, it may help fellow motorists if you do a quick summary of steps involved, especially the sway bar maneuvering part.

I will install the front stabilizer in a heart beat if your freshly prepped 8 eats mine for breakfast out on the autox course (j/k) In any case, you saw how scuffed up my Pirelli was, so advantage: YOU. =P

Were the stock clamps too small for the Tanabe front bar? I ran into that problem when I was installing mine. Also, they include some stopper washers. How did you do that? I remember they included like 6 stopper washers and it came with japanese instructions!

suspension mods are always the best bang for the buck. Depends what you mean for performance, last time i checked handling played a part in that so in short yes it does enhances it. If you're refering to power wise obviously no, but then again nothing in the market besides FI can give you power.

I will try to elaborate some of the Install.
Some important tools
pb bolt removal spray (pepboys)yellow & black can, 2 jack stands, sliding jack and a air compressor.
Hand tools work but as Alex learned its not fun stripping down a nut. Plus the air tools sounds more professional and make the job Alot easier.
Removal
(6) Total bolts which are 14mm are to be removed. 2 hold up the stock clamps on each side, 1 for each sway bar end link.
There are also (2) 12mm bolts that hold the brake lines over the fender liner.( not needed to remove we just did incase of sway bar ripping it while removing)
Now the easiest removal of sway bar is to turn the driverside sway bar clockwise over the lower
Control arm.2nd person should be on passenger side.removal of the bar goes out the passenger side of vehicle.make sure to have helper look from above thru engine bay to make sure comes out without ripping anything. Install is exactly how it was taken off.8 stop washers included.
Wish we could of done more suspension mods that day, it was fun.

where did you position the 8 stop washers?

We used 6 of them, one on each bolt we took off (so 3 on each side). The stock U clamps are fine. We used the Tanabe rubber mounts though to accomodate the thicker sway bar.
