GTR hood scoops installed w/ Pics

Hey guys haven't posted in awhile. Finally got around to cutting in the GTR hood scoops for cooling. Originally they were 2x2 carbon, I ended up color matching them. Figured I would post up some pics. Autobahn or new Feed front will be going back on next month, and I should be getting it in the shop for a paintjob. Enjoy

Please dont tell me you actually took those off a GTR .....

shakeyourbrakes 02-27-2013 05:14 PM

....no. $120 set. They do fit a GTR though, carbon replacements from Japan. Im kind of feeling out the look, im back and forth on them........ I thought I would give it a shot before I spent the money on vented hood and had the car painted in a month

off topic ... what front lip is that??

godesshunter 02-27-2013 06:38 PM

Are they functional?

willnordacgreen1211 02-27-2013 07:34 PM

not for me....

rickeo 02-27-2013 07:41 PM

They are simply NACA ducts, not "GTR hood scoops". Its a standard design on many cars and planes.

Yea ok ducts are ducts... These are GTR ducts. Specifically made to fit an 08-10 GTR which is why I called them that... Thanks for the wiki link to naca ducts though, excellent research.

They pull air into the engine bay, I'll keep an eye on temps and see over the next few weeks

Those?! jk

GK1707 02-27-2013 09:40 PM

I think they would look better a little lower down.

skc 02-28-2013 12:10 AM

Generally, we need to get the hot air out if the back of the radiator is open.

In a stock configuration if you let air in from the bonnet I expect it will end somehow find a way out. I could be applied in reverse to suck hot air out.

agreed.

olddragger 02-28-2013 08:11 AM

blend them into the hood would help a lot. Then I may like them.
I mean they are ok and all. Its your car too so whatever you like is what is important.

shakeyourbrakes 02-28-2013 03:09 PM

I'm back on forth on them. Like I said, figured I would give it shot since I'm upgrading the hood anyway pretty soon. Ill mess around with them a little more

Bullitt 02-28-2013 03:36 PM

Nostrils!

Beodude 03-25-2013 08:53 AM

Think of how much air goes into the nose at speed. It needs places to go. Trying to cram more air in won't help.

Still, for a visual mod, it looks pretty clean.

ShinkaEvo 03-25-2013 09:39 AM

Stock hot air exit is all the way at bottom, and hot air travel upward.
And the are bunch of stuffs between bonnet and undertray...

Nice n' tidy

^Oh, looks nice! Not sure how functional that is with the placement, but looks great!

9krpmrx8 04-23-2014 09:26 PM

I can appreciate the clean work but that doesn't flow at all.

Is that for an intercooler? If it a stock car then all it is doing is blowing air onto the plastic cover with minimal benefit for cooling.

I have seen a video on a mini with a supercharger and the original posters hood scoop is in a zone that will suck in air. A good way to test this is tape some strips of material around the scoop and see if it gets sucked in towards the scoop.

Ideally, it would be nice to have it recessed however that will be a lot of work. In the GTR it is used to cool the turbo. In my application I can direct cool air to the supercharger casing to keep it cool while the other side can direct cool air to the intake plenum.

Fickert 04-23-2014 10:28 PM

I was refering to this thread for scoop placement, its not really in a good spot but does look nice.https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-ext...sports-250453/

Thrasher 04-24-2014 04:53 AM

Skc, 9k, look a bit closer at the front view. intake filter for Procharger directly behind. Hood jacked up at mounts w/gasket removed. It flows my friend.

9krpmrx8 04-24-2014 07:41 AM

I mean it doesn't flow looks wise. But if it functions and you are happy with it then that is cool.
