Further Proof RX-8 is Winter Worthy

A little bored at work... You know, this only has some 1000 views on YouTube so it seems a little under-discovered... but these videos are really sweet. Proof that the RX-8 is worth a damn in winter/snow climate is at 6:30 onwards. check it out

Cool video, love the attention to detail they use nowadays, even testing how much effort it takes to open and close the rear doors!

Ive been driving mine through 3 winters and never got stuck , had any problem or felt unsafe, its for sure the rear end gets loose alot, but not that I will complain.

and we get real winters where i'm from, 1' 1/2 + of snow fall in an evening

Its not the car in the snow, its the operator.

Proof.

Drove from CO to CA on bald all season tires in February...I know not smart, but I was leaving my 8 with my parents in CA while I moved to Germany for two years and didn't want to buy new tired for my Dad to burn through :D:

Anyway, while coming down the mountains in CO/NM I encountered some very bad weather and the freeway was covered in snow. The pucker factor lasted a good two hours and somehow I made it!

This was proof enough for me that our 8s could handle the snow!

the only people that claim the 8 isn't winter worthy, are the ones who are not prepared to drive the car (or most cars for that matter) in the winter.

Winter tires are a must.

Drove my rx8 in two winters. Only drawback is being lowered, oil temps not getting high enough(put cardboard in front of one oil cooler helps), and snow/ice getting packed in the front end/ under engine tray.

DSC and traction control work like a champ with blizzaks and the car stops like a beast.
In fact my rx8 is sitting on blizzaks in the garage incase something would happen to my beater truck.

This is probably the only "issue", but even then, i monitor my oil temps at the pan and see about 140-150F during normal driving regardless of how far below 30F it gets outside. Mind you this is at the pan, and you can expect the oil heats up on its way back to the engine.... would be nice to see what the temp is at in the chambers. If i remember correctly, the oil coolers are thermostat controlled (at least one of them is i think). If you are going to block the cooler, block half of each cooler, in my experience blocking one didn't do much.

Yeah, I have my sensor mounted in the oil filter sandwhich plate. I'd regularly see temps in the 120-130*F range. After I blocked the passenger side opening I saw 140-160*F. Temps 20-30*F

It'd be helpful to know which one the thermostat blocks off. Hmm.

Don't forget the milk shake on the dipstick!

But yeah I'm not worried about it too much anymore. I undercoated my car to prevent rust, and store it now.
