Front of my RX-8 with all grilles in place

I had a request to post a pic or two of the front of my RX-8 with the Large diamond pattern center grille, AC Condendor Grille and small diamond pattern Oil Cooler Grilles installed so I had a chance to take a couple of pics today and thought I would post them.

All of the grilles are made of aluminum and sprayed with black Plasti Dip which is a synthetic rubber compound that resist chips, chemicals and road salts so it stays on for much longer than other methods of coating aluminum metal. The styrofoam bumper energy absorption piece must be painted black with an apropriate spray paint or must be removed if installing the Center Main Grille as it will show through if not painted and it is white in color if left unpainted.

The OC Grilles, AC Condensor Grille and Fog Light Strakes (shown here in OEM Velocity Red) are in production and are for sale in the Vendor's forum. Click the banner in my signature if you would like to check on prices and options.

The Center Main Grille will be offered soon. I am still in the process of making the mounting hardware as this also needs to support the stock air dam.

The Black Flying M Mazda Logo is also another product that I am planning on offering very soon on our forum.

nice clean work D. a quick question, it appears that the center main grill has some holes behind it. Am I wrong?
If I can remember the stock one is closed.

DOMINION 11-23-2004 03:57 AM

RXE16T 11-23-2004 04:34 AM

EZZY 11-23-2004 05:08 AM

looks good :)

hotpot 11-23-2004 06:21 AM

Well done Dennis. Very good effort.

XDEEDUBBX 11-23-2004 10:45 AM

yea whats up with those speed holes on the support beam?

devoid 11-23-2004 11:23 AM

What you are seeing behind the open grille is support beam. That is why the top half of the Mazda grille is blocked off.

Dennis, nice job with the fog light strakes. Looks good in red! May have to get me a pair of those.

Very nice Dennis, I too like the look of the fog light strakes!

If one were to remove the energy absorbtion styrofoam, is there anything behind it that is an odd color (like white)? Not saying that it's save to remove as that is part of the 5 mph front bumper crash test, just curious :)

Those look very nice. Are you making (or have you made) anything similar for the lower rear exhaust area? How much do these items cost?

The only thing behind it is the metal bumper and that would have to be painted black because it is the color of your car minus the clear coat. Here is a pic of the styrofoam after I painted it black. Another that another member contributed some time ago and the last one shows a different view. Note the area behind the styrofoam is OEM color. Also, those black circles are where they screwed in the tie downs for when they shipped them over here. Simple masking of the surrounding area and a trim black or black bumper cover can of spray paint is all that is needed to cover the red if you take off the styrofoam. Even if you do, you still need to rattle a can and paint the OEM color away, unless you have a Brilliant Black. :D

that styrofoam bar can be removed with only two screws also

Actually they are nylon fasteners that "pop" out like the rest of the nylon fasteners on the RX-8. Easy to remove and reattach.

I am wanting to make something for the rear exhaust area but have not started on that part yet. However, that will be the most difficult as it is part of the rear bumper and will have to be something that would have to be cut out by an installer as it would be more difficult than any other grill part of the RX-8.

Click my RX8Fun banner below for ordering details on the Oil Cooler Grills and the AC Condensor Grill. For the Oil Cooler Grills the price is $60 and the AC Condensor Grill it is $50 but if you buy the combo, the price is only $100 plus $7 shipping in the US. The Fog Light Accent Strakes are $60 plus the $7 shipping but will combine all orders for shipping rate as stated. I am in the process of doing a slight redesign of the Fog Light Strakes in the way that they install and should be in production with them by this weekend. They are waiting for the mold to finish curing at this time and should be able to be prepared for the other half of the mold by tomorrow evening.
