I saw this on a news site and I hope this isn't one of you guys. I don't see any impact, and the headlights are still on. He must've got outta there quick...

The Drunk IT Guy 03-25-2008 02:59 PM

I'm wondering if it didn't start in the trunk, it's open.. And even wierder is that it seems the rear doors are missing...

lesper4 03-25-2008 03:00 PM

wow!

dozer 03-25-2008 03:00 PM

GRAN MIERDA!!!! QUE PASO!! oh man that licks big fat cheesy ass!

alz0rz 03-25-2008 03:00 PM

that looks horrible! poor VR :(

looks like possible a fuel line break?

Redpit10 03-25-2008 03:02 PM

Could be from a high powered amp. I've seen systems catch fire before, but never like that. All you need is a spark though.

Wargoose 03-25-2008 03:13 PM

I wonder if I could get those rear tires cheap...

...though I'd probably have to bring my own spatula.

Those melted piles next to the car are the rear doors :)

SideOfBacon 03-25-2008 03:38 PM

wonder if he would sell me his front rotary accent?

thebiggdaddy 03-25-2008 03:45 PM

Hopefully, he or she got out safely.

Jedi54 03-25-2008 03:50 PM

whoa, that really sucks! Hope the driver was okay.

CompMan 03-25-2008 03:54 PM

brings a tear to my eye.

DOMINION 03-25-2008 03:58 PM

My Gawd thats sad :(
This is why I keep a box cutter in my center arm rest and I'm going to get a small fire extinguisher!

JRichter 03-25-2008 04:20 PM

dizzam...

TopGear8 03-25-2008 04:37 PM

Damn that's terrible.

zoom44 03-25-2008 04:49 PM

I was reading a story about a drunk pregnant woman being arrested when I saw a photo at the bottom.

Link

ps.. quit hating

LHpitcher4 03-25-2008 05:45 PM

I blame it on the strakes...

Spinning Sushi 03-25-2008 05:47 PM

Dibs on the fogs!

Atilla 03-25-2008 05:58 PM

^damn it john!

dibs on the HID's :)

Socket7 03-25-2008 06:02 PM

I'm voting insurance fraud. 18mpg + car loan + adjustable APR mortgage == torched 8.

He||hammer 03-25-2008 06:04 PM

Wonder if having cat delete would have helped in burning up excess fuel thus stopping the fire :) hope they are alright.

Gauge 03-25-2008 07:27 PM

Headlights still work...

mysql 03-25-2008 07:32 PM

here's another car fire:

http://videos.topredline.com/recentv...b000e84ed8.htm

After watching how ineffective the fire extiguishers were, I wonder if it would make any more sense to just have a giant half dome shaped metal container you could drop over a burning car to smother it.

anet1737 03-25-2008 07:58 PM

thats horrible...

I lol'ed just picturing that

SolarYellow510 03-26-2008 12:14 AM

As Dave Coleman from SCC once wrote, putting a stainless steel heat shield on your bumper to prevent a bumper fire is rice. Putting a stainless steel heat shield on your bumper to prevent another bumper fire is not rice.

I'll have to ask him if this means we're all allowed to do that now. New BHR product?

fahrfegneugen 03-26-2008 12:55 AM

I guess that was the only way the guy could figure out how to burn the rear tires with an automatic rx8.

Pink Flea 03-26-2008 01:02 AM

I smell new parts car for gr3ddy.. Wonder what he could get off this one?!!

Ever Hernandez 03-26-2008 01:34 AM

GRAN MIERDA!!!! QUE PASO!!

XDEEDUBBX 03-26-2008 06:05 AM

the strakes caused the fire.

NoVa 03-27-2008 08:36 PM

Wow I can't believe I didn't hear about this as I live in bethpage when I'm not at school. That sucks and hope the driver is okay.

Kris 03-28-2008 01:34 PM

Dude i wonder if he would sell the OEM Hid ballasts :P

But in reality, its a sad way for any 8 to go.

Jeison 03-31-2008 02:52 PM

at least it looks like it was taken care of before the fire, the hood and rims are clean!

thats one hell of a tough draw though :(

Alucard 03-31-2008 04:52 PM

that poor rx8 :(

KouMeng 03-31-2008 10:42 PM

I'm going with socket7 on this one. They plan B this car lol.

Perhaps they are not missing.

Perhaps they are a molten blob at that stage. Have heard the rear doors are aluminium & if thats true, doesn't aluminium have a lower melting point than steel.....??

Amazing how well modern day cars burn with all their plastics

Reality says this RX-8 may be stolen & the theives wanted to torch the evidence.......

REgards

ASH8 04-05-2008 12:02 AM

Yep, Rear Door Shells are Aluminum.

9krpmrx8 04-05-2008 06:40 PM

I want the lip.

R3n3sis36 04-22-2008 01:33 AM

A moment of silence..................................:icon_no2 : I hate seeing nice cars go out like this.

fahrfegneugen 04-22-2008 02:00 AM

Who has a fire extinguisher in the car? I think that might be a good mod...

zacknolden 04-22-2008 08:44 PM

Oh shoot! I think the whole fire started inside of the car! I think it was burning for couple of minutes.

first dibs on the air dam i need one... hope the owners o.k tho

LiL BenNy 04-23-2008 03:28 AM

excuse my ignorance but how is it possible for the fire to be at the rear end of the car? generally i though when most cars catch fire its from the engine bay...

no smart ass comments im actually curious to know what technical possibilities could have caused this?

jonklsn 04-23-2008 02:38 PM

drove with the ebrake on for a few miles maybe?
