First Wax for my car

It was a beautiful day here in Chicago. First nice day that we've had in a while and the first nice day since I bought my car a couple of weeks ago.

So today was the first hand wash and wax for my new car. I washed it, waxed the wheels, front and side moldings with liquid glass, then waxed the rest with Carbon Zymol.

Unfortunately, by the time I finished it was getting dark so the pics didn't turn out so well.

Glad to finally get some wax on the paint to protect it.

Machan--Nice choice of wax. $50 for 8 oz. Did you have to order it online? Your car looks great!

Hate to rain on the parade because your car looks great but maybe a claybar should have been in the process?

Actually I bought it at my local BMW dealership. It was about $33 after receiving a BMW club discount.

Yep, probably should have claybarred it but I didn't have as much time. I'm also not that particular about it since this is my track car and not a show type car.

Out of curiosity, why did you Liquid Glass part of the car and Zymol the rest?

I use liquid glass on the wheels and lower body panels because it lasts longer and is more durable. It's suppossedly a polymer type wax that bonds with the clear coat and makes it stronger. On the front, and sides where you get a lot of dirt and rocks kicking up, I like to have more protection. ALso on the wheels. Here in Chicago, there is salt everywhere on the roads this time of year. I would normally use it on the lower rear of the car, but the RX8 is mostly black plastic back there.

Zymol is more like a carnuba wax that shines nicely but doesn't last as long. I use it on the top part of the car so it shines better.

I'm up im Milwaukee, it was a GREAT day it hit 54F here. Problem is winter returns tuesday.

I figured that was why you did it but wasn't sure why you didn't just Liquid Glass the whole car and then just top the certain parts with Zymol. Good stuff, though.

Btw, have you had the chance to use NXT? I'm wondering if LG has better durability than NXT...

I've never used NXT. Can you apply it by hand?

My BMW friends also swear by Zaino, but I haven't used that either.

Yep, winter returns on Tuesday :(

Yes, you can apply NXT by hand. That is how I apply it, as I do not have a PC. My experience is that, at most, it lasts about 4 weeks. Zaino is more durable than NXT certainly, though I've never used it myself.

Anyway, I'd better not discuss this anymore or else this thread and your pictures will get transferred to the Show & Shine section! :p
