Equal track times 350Z & RX-8 true??

Has anyone else seen this video from top gear? I was unaware that our 8 had an equal track time as the Z. Maybe it is just the track or the driver. I know there have been comparisons posted already about these two vehicles on the club but I have not read them at all. I do like the video though. I started this here because of the video just in case anyone ask. I'll do a search on the comparions depending on the future post of this thread.

It also matches an M3!!! eek!

cas2themoe 02-21-2005 09:36 PM

Watch it because some people on here don't believe it. I happen to be one that does believe it. Also have to point out that the UK verison of the RX8 has less HP.

army_rx8 02-21-2005 09:38 PM

that is over a year old. I saw that video right when i go tmy 8 (aug 03)...still nice everytime i see it though. But the track times depend on the track...also the z m3 and rx8 were NOo tested at the same time (ie different days)....but it stiLl shows that all 3 are great cars. something telLs me at the same time the m3 would whoop on our baby and the z. but our car is still damn good .... but as in all things that is my opinion...and opinions may vary hehehehe:p

Mugatu 02-21-2005 09:38 PM

proof positive that raw horsepower alone doesn't mean shit on a track.

BlueRenesis82 02-21-2005 09:43 PM

it would be hard for there to be a driver difference because the same driver does all the top gear tests.

NoTears316 02-21-2005 09:47 PM

Here is the complete time list from the Top Gear website... just .8 of a second slower than the Porsche 911 turbo!

I wouldnt say we're up there with them. But atleast we're on the list with a good time. Its just sweet if you look at the cars around our time, its kinda shows you what the 8 can do on a track.

jenkins-crew 02-22-2005 08:29 AM

cool, were track ass kickers coming from behind unexpectedly!

czr 02-22-2005 08:52 AM

The 8 is a good track car, but that track favors our good handling 8 more than powerful ones. Stretch out the track and we show our weakness. Don't get me wrong. IMO, this is the most balanced $30k car you can buy!

True! We should just keep them on Tracks with twisties then! LOL

jenkins-crew 02-22-2005 09:01 AM

I can't wait to go to the track...

Do those cars have mods? Or are they all stock?

jenkins-crew 02-22-2005 09:16 AM

what were the ones from the list before?

You can more or less see from the cars name if they're mod or standard.
The CLK DTM AMG is the fastest stock car in this test.
#1,2 and 3 are modified Porsche 996..

The Koro 4,6 RM S is a modified 996 GT3 with 4,6 litre,480 hp and 1195 kg(2630lbs)

They love the 8 in the videos, but say it desperately needs more power, as it actually gets lapped by the EVO MR in the endurance race =/. (Its the Type-S Rx8 to boot)

Top Gear only test drives stock cars.... It makes no sense to test drive non-stock cars, because different cars will have different upgrades.

I only partly agree with you, since this list shows very well that hp is just a small bit of thhe whole package that makes a car performe good track times.
F.X. the MTM Audi 2,0 Tdi in 74th place is a 170 hp FWD-diesel A3 with modified chassis. It outperforms the stock RX-8 Revolution(231 hp) with almost 2 seconds..

All the cars in this test can be ordered complete from the tuners who modifies them.

The Koro 4,6 cost more than twice the price of a "normal" GT3:)
More than 200000€..

I agree. But the type of track is also very important. Obviously, a track with longer straights is going to favor the car with greater accelleration and top speed. Almost every atricle you read or commentary you see on TV is going to say something to the effect that the RX8 is so much "easier" to drive at it's limits, whereas, with the 350Z (and many other cars of the same ilk), you really have to work. All that being said, I'd give up a perfect weight distribution for a little more straightline oomph by way of another rotor, or supercharger or turbo.

I agree on that one,but the top 20 in this test would have been pretty unchanged at fx Nürburgring-Nordschleife which is more than 20 km long.

Here is some lap times from Nordschleife, but it is not 100% up to date:)
