DIY Spark Plug Change (Parody!)

Well today was the day, do or die for me. My engine has been acting up and I thought for sure she was a goner. I figured a last ditch attempt and change the plugs. I went looking on the site and found some "so-so" DIY but none where all that easy and pretty much didnt apeal to my own shamless lazy slackerness.

So I did what any red blooded slacker American would do. Make up my own DIY!!!!

First thing is first ya slacker fuques, Pop da hood! After this set it up so it doesnt fall down on ya head (amazing how many time it falls down on you before ya realize what step ya missed.) After this remove dat purdy lil plastic cover and set it on the ground. Now with this done your prepared for the next step as you reach for your cell phone.

Step 2) Scroll down your cellphone till you reach the smallest lightest skinnest fuquer ya know. Call him/her up and tell them to get their rear up to your house now!

Step 3) Once there at your house tell that skinny piece of flesh to get into your engine bay.

Step 4) After this have them reach their skinny arms down into the engine bay and start losening those plugs.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Aug17th001.jpg

Step5) Some plugs will be tuffer to get out so using a piece of a old plastic shelving found in the garage usualy works well enough to double as a torque bar.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Aug17th002.jpg

Step 6) After one rotor housing is done replace the wires back onto the plugs and move onto the next. Make sure that skinny dude is properly doing this. Threats of violence usualy gets the job done. But again make sure the skinny dude is reaching all the way down!
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Aug17th009.jpg

Step 7) Once this is all done kick the skinny guy off your car then run him out of your driveway. Done bother saying thanks or offering dinner to the guy he's skinny and doesnt eat anyways.

Bonus of all this ya dont need to remove the front tire!!!

Disclaimer: Sokim gave me a full go ahead to do another sort of write up but I fear a ban stick for it (somewhat racially charged but he said it and it was hilarious!!!)

Well first, the car so far after the change runs like pure sex. I felt the difference right away, and me and Sokim took the car for a quick spin and yeah.. it was night and day in terms of power. I have to upload photo's of what my plugs looked like and you'll all see why.

Second, Townfair Tire lost my key for the locknuts so after lifting the car up we still couldnt get good enough access to the plugs. So while I'm down on the ground trying to manuver myself under the tire and contort my arm into the engine bay, Sokim decides to hop into the engine bay and reaches down to get to the plugs. Imagine my surprise when I get up and comment "..this is gonna be a pain in the ass..." and see him in my engine bay with a retort of "nah I got it..". I just started to laugh and had to take a photo. Right after this jokes are tossed about and idea for this thread started lol, it was more um different but he was the one saying the jokes not me. :wiggle: So I'm inocent.

But yeah.. just keep a small light weight friend around and your golden on spark plug changes foreva.

Much easier to remove the wheel.

Clavius 08-19-2008 07:30 AM

Well Sokim changed his over a lil while ago and he even commented "Doing this from up here is easier.. gotta remember this..". He changed his with taking the front tire off. We sadly did it from uptop cause my local tire shop lost my key for my wheels and never told me (kinda long story ugh!). So for those not wishing to jack their car up and weight about 115lb's like Sokim this is a valid DIY lol

altspace 08-19-2008 07:40 AM

Too funny. Sux about the lost key. Hope they are getting you a replacement.

genjuromikos 08-19-2008 07:47 AM

yes i can definitely say imo replacing the spark plugs from the top was easier than when i did it through the wheel well

How many miles were on the plugs before you decided to change them?

I wonder if I'm getting parasitic power loss due to poor plugs.... Car feels fine but maybe I should be checking....

Highway8 08-19-2008 09:01 AM

Have you tried jacking the car up and just laying under the car to change them. You can see and reach all 4 plugs without any marks on your arms. You do reach in from the wheel well with an extension for some of the plugs. I have done it both ways and my arms appreciate doing it from under the car. I can change mine in about 10 minutes, 15 minutes if I dont have the right extension and swivel for my 3/8 ratchet.

The Plugs had about 20k on 'em atleast. Thought they where good for 30k but aparently not :( But so far car runs smooth as silk with the new plugs, and no odd start ups either!

Mr Clavius, I'm admiring Sokims oil cooler screens, did he make 'em or buy 'em, if bought, where from and how much please. The wing also looks "T"- rific .

SiLVeRE8 01-18-2010 01:16 AM

lol funny DIY! My 8 is almost due for a spark plug change too... I guess I will be doing it from the bay instead.

altspace 01-18-2010 09:17 AM

Holy thread bump! FYI - His 8 has gone to RX heaven. :(
