Did some badge work and plasti-dippin'

Couple days ago I went to de-badge the back of the car and got the mazda logo and "mazda" badge off and found these little diddies:

the "rx-8" badge was just on with tape so that didnt go back on right away, thinking ill dip it as well and put it back on for symmetry. looks unbalanced now.

so i got some emblem adhesive and figured itd be a good time to try plasti-dip and black em'out and they came out pretty good as well as a "zoom-zoom" polished license plate frame

definitely looks alot sharper. i dont care for chrome at all

Nice love. black on red

pdxhak 10-28-2012 01:34 PM

The license plate frame does not match now. You do not need to remove the badges to apply plasti dip.

SayNoToPistons 10-28-2012 03:13 PM

Don't care for chrome, yet puts on chrome plate frame...

Bremma 10-28-2012 09:22 PM

Sorry man but I agree, the chrome plate surround needs to go. Are you plasti dipping the front too?

monchie 10-28-2012 11:31 PM

Looks good! Anyway, if you like the chrome frame, then keep it...to each, their own.

Yeah... That's pretty much the primary advantage to using Plasti-dip.

Big_Hoss 10-29-2012 10:41 AM

i know, i completely contradicted myself. lol i am going to do the front soon. just need to get some newspaper and plastic for masking. first thing i thought when it was done was, dammit, i should have got the black mazdaspeed plate frame. oh well, less chrome is always good though. still looks good.

Since I'm betting you will ask, no they do not fit on your car!

Hoss, looks good though!

I'm not an idiot. I knew as soon as you said they were S2 lights that they would not fit on my 1st gen 8 (without modifications anyway).

And yeah hoss, your car/badges look awesome! The red 8s are the coolest in my opinion and I wish I had gotten one instead of my boring silver ;)

Big_Hoss 10-31-2012 11:04 AM

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

Really? the plastidip just peels off the paint that easy after you spray the badges or how does that work?

Mr_Pieper 10-31-2012 02:45 PM

Yeah. It even peels off in a fairly easy manner off of the badges after you decide you don't like it anymore.

RotaryMachineRx 11-01-2012 09:22 AM

Hmmm, may have to look into this for my badges.... what did you use to get inside the A and D and such to peel the plastidip from the body paint without peeling it off the insides of the badges?

Mr_Pieper 11-01-2012 09:24 AM

If you spray it straight on it will not stay connected across the tiny gap between the badges and the paint. You can get the excess off with a wooden toothpick to avoid tearing anything up.

Does the 3rd brake like still show thru the paint?

Mr_Pieper 11-01-2012 09:47 AM

I never checked. After I got new wheels I peeled it all off. I do remember putting less coats on the light though.

ghost9light 11-01-2012 10:12 AM

looks good Hoss. I love widow colors. (red and black)

Wingznut 11-03-2012 01:38 AM

Why don't you want a third brake light??? If anything, buy a tinted LED light. Or shoot it with paint designed to allow it to still function.

This... Can't tell you how much it increases the chance of being plowed in the ass. The plasti-dipping of the badging is whatever, but plastidipping a safety equipment is just plain stupid.

And it looks awful... A black, non-functional oval in the trunk lid.
