Day out in the mountains

This is my favourite image from my day in the mountains today. You can really see the blue in this one.

Rotary Accent

I got the accent fitted yesterday (they call it a crest here). I think it goes really well with titanium but not sure on all the colours.

Update

Brakes are fully bedded in now and feel good. I was just suprised how long it took for them to become effective. Had a good time in the twisties and got a bit of DSC action. It cuts in really late which is good - just at the point you're beginning to panic. I didn't really push it that hard but it cut in on a couple of left handers where the surface was terrible. I also purposely tried it out in the rain yesterday - managed to pull a huge wheelspin off the lights up hill even with it on! It's fun as it doesn't kill the power like other systems but let's you carry on - so you don't just stand still with the wheels spinning.

It was a good day to acclimitise myself with the car - starting to feel quite comfortble with it. Now all I need to work out is that Japanese navi! :D

That's really nice... any chance you could let us have a higher resolution copy of this...

Winning 06-02-2003 07:24 AM

OK, that's it:mad: can't take it anymore. I am going to Japan now and you have to take me to the mountain with your RX8.....:D

BRx8 06-02-2003 09:30 AM

JSG-

that first picture is GOURGEOUS! good luck deciphering that Navi...maybe when one of us gets our RX's, we can scan the entire intruction manual, to thank you for all the info you've given us!

actually, i heard the navi isn't much different from the 6's navi...maybe someone with a 6 can scan that manual for you?

Yuhki 06-02-2003 09:34 AM

Very nice pics, JSG-san.

Today was a fine day in Kanto area. I bet you really enjoyed your drive. The metric color of the titnium looks very good under any situations.

The rotary accent on the fron bumper also seems very well.
I have read other owner who has a blue 8 said that the rotary accent was not so good for blue.

P.S. I will add a burglar alarm this weekend :)

J-Spec cars don't come with an alarm???? I know it's standard in the US. Or are you adding another??

RotorGeek 06-02-2003 09:49 AM

Do you get alot wind noise with the roof open?? The car look great. Enjoy

Farsyde 06-02-2003 10:38 AM

I will get the accents for sure now. It looks great with the Titanium. I was hesitant at first thinking it might be to chromy (is that a word? :p). After seeing that second pic it's settled. My $500 deposit will cover the MP3 player and the Accents. Thanks JSG.

zoom44 06-02-2003 02:22 PM

I WANT MY CAR!!!! ok now everyone get to JSG's house for a drive:D

ed hall 06-02-2003 02:53 PM

£$^%$"£$^&%$££ !!!!
These are wonderful shots. Great to see you enjoying the car so much. Once a year the wife says, "lets go for a drive in the country." With the 8, no doubt I will happily oblige....on a daily basis!

BTW : how much of the drive was to show off your car?

I don't think that was his intent. The mountain is not exactly the place to show off a car. But it would be the place to drive and experience the car. If I have access to mountains like that within a couple hours drive, I would be there every weekend. Florida is so damn flat.

ed hall 06-02-2003 03:14 PM

i get what you're saying, but don't all drivers who want to experience and test the handling of their new cars go to the mountains?

No doubt, he would have overtaken lesser (about everything on the market today) cars during the twisties!

The point though is : as long as he had fun.

P00Man 06-02-2003 04:22 PM

knew i picked the titanium for a reason.......my god, those shots a just gorgeous JSG, and damn the accent package is hot w/ the grey, need that now too lol!

Wow.. spectacular..

Makes me even more  that no one has their cars.

Is it me, or does the grey have like a blue tint to it.. Like when you see it at different angles?? Just look at the nose of the car and draw your eyes to the back.. dont you see a slight hue change in the picture?

JSG please confirm..

well then Hakuna Matata! Hang Loose Brudda!

cueball 06-02-2003 07:38 PM

That first pic looked so good I had to use it as my avatar. If you have a problem with that you can just PM and I will change it.

Too bad it doesn't look as good when it is shrunk down to 100X100.:(

brothervoodoo 06-02-2003 07:53 PM

Re-crop it so that you get "more of the car". It should make it look better when you shrink it down.

Wolverine 06-02-2003 08:06 PM

You read my mind, Renesis08! I was also thinking the rotary accents might be 'too much'. But after seeing JSG's, I think I'll add them. Thanks from me too, JSG!

By the way what camera did you use JSG? Thanks.

JSG 06-03-2003 06:54 AM

Full resolution images

I use a Sony DCR-IP45 video camera in stills mode so they're only 1 megapixel. It works best in bright light and is obviously better as a video camera but it does the job for web posts.

Due to popular demand here is the link to the hi-res copies. I won't leave them up there too long as it makes me out of space so grab the ones you want.

Glad you like the pics. Hang in there - the last few weeks are the worst!

JSG 06-03-2003 07:01 AM

You won't believe me but on the twisties I was overtaking bikes! Somehow I don't think those guys were trying too hard though!

We don't get a burglar alarm here as there is no crime (other than good old fashioned organised stuff). Do you live in a strange part of Japan where they have crime Yuhki?!

I was having a lot of fun until, in the countryside, a guy filled her up with regular rather than super. Half way through he realised and said "oh well, we'll do half and half!". I was fuming "it's a new car" but the deed was done! Seems ok but I'm toping it up all the time to dilute back to super (15 litres of regular went in the tank).

Yuhki 06-03-2003 07:02 AM

Thank you for the nice pics, JSG-san.

BTW, which type of the rotary accent did you chose? normal alminum or polished alminum ?

Lensman 06-03-2003 07:12 AM

Great images and thanks for posting them, nice to see more Titanium shots. However, why oh why oh why did you take such nice pictures with the moonroof OPEN?! It may be useful but no one can claim that it adds to the beauty of the car...

Hmmm... that's not good... if you'd decided to use Super and you didn't get it ....

What are the octane ratings of regular and super where you are? Here it's 95 for regular and 97/98 for Super.

Does the manual recommend a particular fuel or is it personal choice on your part..

Yes. more than half of the reason I add the burglar alarm is just for fun:)

This is my first sportscar, so I did not know if Japan is safe place or not.
But as long as you say "it is safe". I think Japan is safe place for the sports cars.:)

As to my former car, Harrier, I know some guys in the owners club stolen their cars.
For the RV cars, Japan is not safe place. If you were stolen your Harrier around Tokyo, they tend to be shipped from Yokohama then sold mainly to Asian coutries

Whoa, do we get a choice?

mathteacher 06-03-2003 05:41 PM

JSG,
Just some quick questions when you get a chance. I remember reading that you have a car seat in the back for your little one.

Is it rear facing?

Which seat is is behind?

how much room is left for the person in fron when the car seat is in?

Can you snap a quick photo?

Thanks ahead of time. I know these are not the most exciting question and the answers might not pertain to a lot of the members on this page but would love to hear the answers when you have some time.

Thanks,
Mathteacher.

mac 06-04-2003 10:31 PM

Hey Lensman, I agree with you. My first impression was "wow that open moonroof is really hanging way out there, not impressed with the look." I am re-evaluating my desire for one. Doesn't it have a significant impact on the CD and fuel consumption when open like that?

Farsyde 06-05-2003 11:31 AM

anyime you break up the aerodynamic envelope the car makes you increase drag and lower mpg. But i don't htink it will be too bad. Looks like it only has a forward facing cross section of about 2ft x 5 inches, and it is a wedge shaped obstruction so the air should flow relatively cleanely over it.

Donny Boy 06-08-2003 11:46 PM

What a great pic of a fantastic color. Thanks.

Puppy1 06-12-2003 11:06 PM

Can't be, the rims are different.

FYI:
Japanese do NOT like to show anyone thier plates for some reason. If you get a photo from Japan always hide the plate # as a courtesy.

JSG 06-13-2003 12:23 AM

Indeed - not mine. I like the stock wheels, plus my plate is "8". I don't know why people here hide the plate details but I've just gone along with it incase there is a real reason. For instance, depending what info the government makes available, it could be really easy to track your plate to an address and then steal the car.

Wolverine 06-13-2003 06:53 PM

If you guys looked at the plates you can clearly see that they are Japan plates. Besides....I found the pic from "Club RX-8 @FUN" a Japanese RX-8 site. I figured that someone already changed their rims, I thought you, JSG, had followed suit as well. Apparently not. Speaking of swapping, someone already, I'm guessing, has added aftermarket seats in their RX-8 because someone in Japan are auctioning off stock ones.
