Calling all Mazdaspeed bodykits!

I'm a new member in the club. I'm currently looking at purchasing an RX-8 in about a year. So far, I'm not sure if I should go Red or Black. However, I was on this real cool Japanese Mazda website where I was able to customize my future RX-8. The website allowed you to incorporate Mazdaspeed bodykit parts with the appearance package parts, it looked good, in my opinion.

I'm thinking about a 6 speed, Red or Black RX-8 with the factory appearance package-Front and Rear, with front and rear rotary accents. Then I would add the full Mazdaspeed side skirts and spoiler, what do you guys think? It looks real good on the website, plus I think there is one or two members in this club who have that setup.

ALL OF YOU MAZDASPEED BODYKIT RX-8'S RESPOND! WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK!

Those of you who have Mazdaspeed bodykits, send me some pictures of your vehicle if possible. If there is anyone out there who has the factory front and rear appearance package with the Mazdaspeed side skirts with or without the Mazdaspeed spoiler, send me some pictures of your vehicle. I think I saw a few RX-8's with that setup. Pictures of Red or Black Mazdaspeed vehicles would be great too. Thanks.

Mike,

I like the way the entire package looks on your Red RX-8. The reasoning behind why I want to keep the Front and Rear Appearance package is for the Rotary Accents, I happen to like them and the price of purchasing the entire Mazdaspeed bodykit and installing it, is I'm sure a bit pricey, perhaps I'm wrong?

How much did it cost for the Mazdaspeed bodykit and installation?

Mike,

So it came out to about $2.000 after the purchase and installation of the bodykit? That's not too much, I'll have to weigh my options. I'm in Ohio, I'm going to have to find a Mazdaspeed dealership to buy the bodykit, and then find a place where I could get it installed, do you know if mazda installs their Mazdaspeed body kits?

I still want to check out what the RX-8's with the Appearance Package-Front and Rear flares, with the Mazdaspeed bodykit sides look like.

the dealerships can get and install the kit
You can get a bodyshop to install and paint the kit probably for less

omicoron and sillygirl have the set up you are looking for

MikeB, Thanks for the useful information, now I know. You know, the more I look at the FULL Mazdaspeed bodykit on the RX-8, the more I like it! Your car looks sweet. Hopefully, Omicoron and Sillygirl can send over some pictures of their RX-8 so that I can compare the looks of both stylings, although I'm sure their cars look just as good as the FULL Mazdaspeed bodykit. It's still an RX-8!

Orange, Your car looks SWEET! Very impressive! I was thinking about going in a different direction, but still incorporating the Mazdaspeed side skirts and spoiler, but, like I was telling MikeB, the more I look at the Full Mazdaspeed bodykit, the more I'm falling in love with it. Great pictures, great car Orange, enjoy that car Bro! Don't be shy Orange, send some more pictures over every once and awhile.
By the way Orange, how much did it cost you? (Purchase and installation) Did you install it at a Mazda dealership?

OEM, not a kit. I would strongly suggest NOT cutting corners and buying the genuine article. Fit and finish is flawless, and you can do the install yourself, even if you are only marginally mechanically inclined (like me :D )

Orange, Your bodykit looks factory, it looks great though! Send some more pics, I'm still undecided between Red or Black.

BigOLundh, Your car's fit and finish is immaculate! Wonderful look! A couple of inquires though, firstly, what kind of rims are those...Size, Style and Brand? They look great. Secondly, I see there is a bit of a "finish" that lines up your body kit, it's the black material that lines up the front spoiler and the side skirts. Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is that stuff called and where did you get it from? I like the way it finishes off the body kit's "Full Appearance". Let me know.

Goforward, Ditto for your vehicle! It looks great and the finish it also very tight and clean, I love the vehicles look. What exactly were you referring to in your last post? You mentioned OEM, and not cutting corners, could you elaborate? Keep the pictures coming, the car looks wonderful!

By OEM I mean the genuine Mazdaspeed Kit. There are multiple knock-offs on the market. Of the many people that have tried to make them work, only a handful have succeeded and still then, most aren't 100% perfect. I think that even Mikeb's car (which always looks stellar) has some small gap issues with his kit.

Even though the MS Kit is more expensive, it's totally plug and play. Over the course of a weekend (with the help of a friend or two) you can install this and it will be turn-key perfect versus the typical story of "knock-off" re-fits, repaints, weeks of wait, and ever-increasing bodyshop costs.

P.S. I just re-read your post and I think that you may have been referring to the pic that BigOLundh re-posted of an example of the Red MS, which is my car. He was just re-posting because he likes the rims (Thanks BigO!) which are Gram Lights. The "finish" that you are refering to is the dark grey trim which is part of the OEM kit. If you take a look at the pics I posted earlier, one shows a rear view. Notice the rear diffuser which is the same grey color.

I've had the Racing Beat suspension on for a while now. At first I thought it didn't drop the car enough, but in hindsight, I'm happy that it didn't as anything lower would have probably made mincemeat out of the nose on a few occasions.

Goforward, Thanks for the information. I was thinking of going the genuine way with a Mazdaspeed bodykit from Mazda, now I know I will get the bodykit from Mazda, good stuff.
Did you purchase your Mazdaspeed bodykit from Mazda or OEM? I would imagine so, but I just wanted to make sure. I'm thinking about purchasing a Red RX-8, if I were to purchase the Mazdaspeed bodykit from mazda, would the black/grey finish towards the bottom of the bodykit be a part of that bodykit? I know you mentioned that the black/grey finish was part of the OEM bodykit, but I was not sure if your bodykit was OEM or Mazdaspeed and if mazdaspeed's bodykits from Mazda offered that feature. If possible send me a few more pics of your car, that way I can look at your vehicle while reading your responses to my questions. Thanks and keep the good information coming.

Send me a PM with your e-mail, and I'll toss you over some pics! When you purchase your Rx-8 just make sure you buy one without any factory appearance package, rotary accents, or wing. It will all come off anyway. If I "knew" I was going to convert my car to the MS body, dare I say, I probably would have bought a black Rx-8. Of the many examples I've seen, I'd have to give black a slight edge over Red for MS. Black just looks more aggressive. The positive side to Red is that it's still a great color, easier to maintain, and aftermarket wheels look better (IMHO), but you can't go wrong either way.

I've got some decent install pics (nose, bumper hack, etc.) so if you DIY, let me know an I'll send 'em across. Good Luck!

GOFORWARD, Good stuff, although I'm still not sure whether to get a Red or Black RX-8. A few weeks ago I was sold on Black, but all of the sudden I'm leaning towards Red. My girl-friend loves Red and I think it is a very aggresive and appealing color for sports cars, but I'll keep you posted. My E-mail address is: rgpiedra@kent.edu ---Send me a bunch of pictures, I believe you have a Red RX-8, so your pictures could validate the purchase of a Red RX-8!! Thanks.
